There are so many great tracks on this album that this could easily be a best of! The unplugged format is perfect for Neil Young and really shows his songs off in their best light and his voice goes just perfectly with acoustic guitar. This is where I began my love of Neil Young and I really believe it is a great starting point in his music and style before delving deeper into his other albums. A great album.

This is a fantastic collection of songs, and perhaps the best of all the albums which sprang from CSN. It has Crosby's strongest selection of songs, including the amazing Games and the haunting and moving Where will I be? This and Wind on the water represent Crosby and Nash's creative peak, with or without S and Y.

Neil Young

Young kicked off his solo career with a very low key affair. The whole pace of the album is dictated to by the opening jaunty instrumental The Emperor of Wyoming which has a definite country feel to it. The key to the success of a first album is a positive answer to the question "will this artist improve?" With Young it was definitely a yes as you could hear the beginnings of the golden career that was to follow.

So this is a decent stab at things, but there was much better to follow. It includes some pseudo classical twiddly bits and, like on so many Young albums, the sum of the whole is slightly fractured, varying from the prettiness of "Here We Are in the Years," which for me is the outstanding track, to the rambling "The Last Trip to Tulsa" which at nine ... Buffalo Springfield

The sixties produced a vast multitude of classic debut albums and this comfortably falls within that category. It's not surprising when you think of the sheer talent in this band and it's such a shame that the glory was shortlived. However, what there was of the Buffalo Springfield recording legacy ranks alongside all the other great artists of the era. Although Neil Young went on to greater fame and solo success, this eponymous effort finds Stephen Stills in blistering form, showcasing his supreme ability as a songwriter. The compositions are outstanding, the singing is outstanding and the interplay and skill of the musicians is second to none. It's sheer magic. How anyone can fail to give this album five stars is, quite frankly, beyond me.

What can I say about Volume One of the Nuggets compilation that hasn't already been said, this album after all is still one of the most important purchases I have ever made.

The cheap price tag of this collection on its own is quite frankly daft, but with the array of quality songs from relatively unknown bands being quite literally immense on this compilation, as a starting point you can't really do much better. So in short, you have no excuse, you need to have this compilation in your collection now.

Originally compiled and released in 1972 on the Sire Record label, by Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman with help from Lenny Kaye, Nuggets is a superb gateway to the 1960's Psychedelic and Garage scenes. I play at least 5 songs from this record every week ... Read More:

Hell Freezes Over

Having purchased this item myself and with two 'Universal Players' capable of playing surround DVD-Audio (and SACD), I can confirm that unfortunately this item is just DTS Surround and does NOT contain DVD-Audio. I say this because a DVD-Audio option does not appear when the disc is loaded into a DVD-Audio player, nor is there any mention of DVD-Audio in the accompanying packaging with the disc. A shame, because the Surround Sound is good even with DTS (but is likely to have been even better with the higher bit and sampling rate of DVD-Audio). Therefore just 3 stars, because the sound won't be any better than the DVD (with DTS), which also includes the video of the concert.

The Byrds underwent many line-up changes but the line-up that recorded the classic Sweethearts of the rodeo album didn't last long even by Byrds' standards. Two of its key members, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, quit and formed the Flying Burrito Brothers. This twofer contains their first two albums.

The first album, Gilded Palace of Sin, is regarded as a landmark album in the evolution of country-rock, almost as important as Sweethearts of the rodeo. Despite the label country rock, this album actually contains a few soulful ballads. On this album, the group comprised Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, Sneeky Pete Kleinow and Chris Ethridge. Most of the songs are originals, though the album also includes brilliant covers of Dark end of the street and Do right woman.

Prairie Wind

Neil Young's post aneurism album is his `Harvest' album for the new century. The music is very well played the tunes are good and the lyrics very reflective. Mainly acoustic guitar, bass and drums with the odd keyboard and lap guitar, the albums kicks off with `the Painter' a song about following your dream. The Album ends with Neil crooning `When god made me' which sounds almost odd coming from Neil Young a man not noted for his religious beliefs. Highlights on the album are `It's a dream', `Prairie wind' and `This old guitar'. Fans of Neil's grunge side may not find much in this album but other fans will get lots. This is an excellent introduction to the music of Steve Earle. Steve Earle is an amazing musician who almost defies classification – he has his roots in country music but his work shows strong rock influences, particularly influenced by the blue collar rock of Bruce Springsteen (in fact this album includes a couple of Springsteen covers).

The album takes tracks from Earle’s first four albums (Guitar Town, Exit 0, Copperhead Road & The Hard Way) together with five live tracks from his live album Shut up and die like an Aviator. Personally I prefer later Earle (Jerusalem and El Corazon are probably my two favourite albums) but this is fantastic introduction to early Steve Earle.
