This is a real music lover's album. An Original, eclectic mix of bluesy, rocksy, folksy, jazzy tunes. At the time of performing some of the tracks Buffalo Springfield were playing at the Whisky in LA's Sunset Strip during its golden age when Jefferson Airplane and The Doors were sharing top billing (for a time Jim Morrison was obsessed with Mr Soul Man, written in response to police brutality in LA, singing it everywhere he went). In fact the band's obvious eclecticism on this album is probably more easily understood in comparison to these bands rather than the folk-rock tradition of which this album forms an inevitable part.Made at a time when the first wave of sixties bands had enjoyed their first flush and people were looking for something ... I don't know what kind of drugs Neil was (or wasn't) on during the making of Trans but it certainly makes for an interesting listen.
The majority of this album is odd in that Neil sings through a vocoder, which makes him sound like a robot, and the music is mostly electronic and dark - Kraftwerk style. There are 3 songs where Neils voice is left alone and he uses an acoustic guitar, they seem out of place here which does break the overall mood but they are still good songs. Little Thing Called Love, the only single, is a catchy little opener but not an indication of the dark electro onslaught that follows. Hold On To Your Love is a light breezy tune that gives the album a little break and Like an Inca is a great closer with an irresistable hook. ... Read More:

This is one of Dylans finest albums of all time.
Coming off the back of the awesome trilogy of Bringing it all back home/Highway 61 revisited and Blonde on Blonde it seemed impossible that they could be topped.
What we have here is an altogether different album, with some of Dylans greatest writing. Paring down the surrealism and iconic Beat poetry of the albums before he goes back to the beginning to reinvent himself once again.
The vocals are simply awesome and with the group backing so spare it lends weight to the rootsy feel of country style music.
A great album which I would recommend to anyone!!!!!

This collection of hits and more recent tracks covers several styles of music spanning a career output of over 20 years. Therefore, unless you are a big Linda Ronstadt fan, not all the tracks will appeal to all listeners. However, a number of the hits sound great and are well produced. The bright opening of the CD hits a major glitch (and not the last one) at tracks 4 & 5, when LR throws in a couple of recent songs to complement the older hits. All the new material is frankly awful and would not be produced were it not by a well-known 'name' in the industry, except possibly as muzak. However powerful and listenable LR's voice, the reality is that there is only so much anyone can do with sloppy material. The hits retain their appeal generally and were the reason I ... Read More:

Nick Hornby's 31 Songs mentions this album. Many of the other people I listen to refernece Steve Earle, so I bought it and listened and loved it. Why not 5 stars? Nobody is perfect but this is a thumping good album and a great introduction for me to Steve Earle - I will be buying more!

Beautiful! I think it mustve been Elvis Costello covering some of Gram's songs on that album 'Almost Blue' and after hearing Gram Parsons original versions it knocked Elvis flying out of the CD player!
'How much Ive Lied' Song for you' If you like decent country music you have to by this! Even if you don't the tunes and his voice are amazing!
Release Date December 13, 2004
A few dodgy tracks as to be expected on any album, however fantastic songs by the kinks, henry mancini and the police, cake, bob dylan, tindersticks, dominic chianese, elvis costello and casey chambers.
A massive blend of different musical genres that truly is fantastic, only falls short of five stars due to several unremarkable tracks, a perfect companion to the series and a must buy for soprano fans and music fans alike

Having been a fan of Neil Youngs for donkeys years, I can still play a number of his albums and still feel the power from his vocal talents that have seen him go from decade to decade with the thrill and excitement that only a true musician can offer.
The decade album offers some very good tracks for an insite to young for those whom have yet to really listen to what he can offer. Old Man is basically my favourite Neil young song ever and that alone for me sets the standard of a true gifted master at work.
Any neil young album for me is essential to a music collection, and this one paves the way for those who are looking to grasp a section of what Neil has to offer.

I love Bob Dylan, and I know it's heresy, but really this is a poor CD set. Put it this way : if I woke up from a coma and had no memory of Bob Dylan, and heard this, I'd think it was a not-very-good set of 60s folk/rock recordings, with just a few decent tracks maybe worth sticking on the iPod.
I would go for it only if you are trying to get everything by Bob Dylan regardless of quality, or you absolutely love 60s folk/rock.
