I was looking for some music suitable to play during my daughter's murder mystery dinner party set in post war Casablanca - the suggestions were Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier and Marlene Dietrich - when I came across this CD, and decided to buy it. Since it arrived a couple of days ago, myself and my two daughters (aged 14 and 10) have listened to it over and over again. I am especially intrigued by the scottish sounding track, but am also enjoying both traditional and contemporary tracks. It may only include one of the 3 suggested singers, but it definitely creates the required french ambience.

When I first heard Tribalistsas' cut "Carnavalia" on the radio, I wanted to hear more. So I bought the CD and now listen to it frequently. Another favorite is the catchy "Passe Em Casa," from guest artist Margareth Menezes. This CD does supposedly represent the best of Brazilian pop, and features three of Brazil's hottest stars: Arnaldo Antunes' vocals, Marisa Monte's guitar, and Carlinhos Brown on the piano, bass, and vocals. The trio does create an unbelievable rich, gentle, and subtle melange of vocals and instrumentation; the percussion is wonderful.

Tribalistas combined efforts bring the terrific contemporary music of Brazil to life. This is mellow sound that encourages you to chill-out, and dream. I recommend it. ENJOY!! Aprecíe!

Tango Bitter Sweet

This CD arrived this morning and I've played it most of the day.

At last - an ensemble that has a true feel for the louche character of the tango. In fact I'm so impressed that I've ordered two more of their discs and I have a feeling I shall end up buying their whole output. They are an incredibly versatile quartet playing a huge range of instruments in a variety of musical genres and creating a very distinctive voice that is at the same time varied, relaxed and energising.

Mana are perhaps the biggest Mexican "rock" group today, having been around for over 10 years and been recipients of an"unplugged" session on MTV.

Their style is a mixture of '80's rock, salsa, reggae, with a vocalist who sings a bit like Sting (in Spanish, naturally), a fantastic guitarist, solid bass player and a drummer who can play anything.

This is perhaps their most consistent album to date. The songs are all strong, ranging from ballads to atmospheric numbers, a couple of mid-tempo rockers, a funky salsa number (Tu Tienes lo Que Quiero), and Clavado En Un Bar, which has a bit of everything, including the coolest guitar solo...mmmm!!!

If you like Santana, you'll LOVE this!

This album is absolutely untouchable. Anyone who buys this album would have to buy two! one to listen two and one to frame and place on the wall...it is classic and carefully crafted to perfection. Very good performing by Joanna, and such a lovely, no inspired selection of pieces! I really love this CD - BUT, the production quality really lets this down!!!! Don't listen to this CD with headphones - this is not overly critical as it really interferes with the enjoyment of this otherwise excellent CD. just a plea to record labels to get the recording right to do justice to the performer, and also the music!
