This album is the quintessential dinner jazz album. Forget all those lame Best of Jazz compilations. Jobim's original Bossa Nova tracks are the only option for the smoothest, most elegant and sensual songs that everyone in the room can kick back to.

This eclectic band is now part of the history of music. The songs chosen to feature in this Best Of are perfect, this really does comprise the best of the band. With one exception : Bring The Fire. This fantastic song which used to start their live performances is strangely absent. Nevermind, you can always buy King of Bongo along with it. One thing is sure, if you like music, you cannot pass this up, buy it NOW.

This was the first album by Marc Anthony that I ever heard, having been recommended it by a friend.
For those couples out there who like to have "our song" then this is the album for you. It has it all.....falling in love, falling out of love, being in love, wanting love, turning your back on love.....the lyrics and the music are very, very special.
I play this album as often as I can and never tire of the songs. My favourite: You sang to me.
This is not just an album for salsa lovers, it is an album for lovers the world over.

This tapestry of *irresistible* gypsy music from Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, the Balkans (Kosovo, Macedonia), Rajasthan (India), Hungary, Romania, England and as far north as Finland, is woven into a timeless, seamless whole! Most *impressive* is the root sound that essentially remains unaltered no matter from which country the music arises. The improvisations and embellishments are indefinable and original spanning many centuries and musical styles. However, it is interesing to see that Finnish gypsy rhythm & melody is similar to that of Italy, Hungary, and Romania. Also, Balkan gypsy music by Madhe Krushe has strong influences of the traditional instruments played in Bulgaria, Macedonia, & Kosovo. The raw firey vocals of the Spanish ... Read More:

Paolo Conte has been dubbed the "Tom Waits" of Italy but he is much much more than this. With his deep cigarette-grazed voice his songs speak of far-away places as well as his local Caffe. Followed by a full jazz-set, trumpets, saxophone, bandoleone, Paolo Conte fills the air with a wonderful melancholy, a melancholy which recalls cold afternoons huddled in, thinking back on life.
This specific album is a nice collection, although it does not contain my ever-favourite song, "Gli Impermeabili"... so between the two Best Of's, I recommend "The Best Of Paolo Conte" released in July 5th, 1999 -

This CD brings back images of the film, and those years gone by. Nostlgia doesn't come any better. A classic film deserves a classic soundtrack, this collection of music perfectly encompasses those days gone by. Great music. Great film. Great cast. Great.

This has to be heard to be believed.
I read about it somewhere just as it was released and, being nuts about the Dusseldorf doyens nearly all my life, I decided to see what it was about.
If you've ever wondered what the immaculate Showroom Dummies or The Robots sound like rendered as Latin tunes, wonder no more as they're here plus other corkers like the truly brilliant Home Computer.
God himself knows what Ralf Hutter and Florian Schnieder think of it all but I dare say it makes them smile. It's also staggering to think of the sheer man hours Uwe put into this: knowing the songs intimately which he probably does is one thing but analysing what makes them work and then re-work totally differently is something ... Suba and Katia B. enthusiasts like myself who were disappointed by the conservative and unimaginatively produced follow-up to Bebel's excellent debut "Tanto Tempo" might do well to look into this collection of remixes.
The angles taken by the various remix wizards - many of them unfamiliar names to me, but then I'm no expert - give the songs an edge that they wholly lacked in their original incarnations. On second hearing they even turn out to be quite good songs as well. I especially liked "Aganju", written by Carlinhos Brown and "featuring" Bebel's mum Miucha on background vocals. (Incidentally, some tracks are co-authored by Didi Gutman of the New York band Brazilian Girls. If you like this stuff you should certainly check them out!)
