Mendes's "Fool on the Hill" was one of the first albums that this then fifteen-year-old bought with his allowance. Thus began an almost forty-year love affair with the Brazilian's sound. One can't imagine my excitement when I learned of the release of "Timeless," his first album of new music in over a decade.
And what an album it is!!! The disc is an outstanding blend of the old and the new, with cuts to satisfy the contemporary crowd as well as those of us with nostalgia of the soul.
Though the album features guest performances from the likes of Justin Timberlake to Jill Scott to John Legend, the best cuts are those that harkens back to the cool 1960's, adding a new dimension with rap and modern rhythms. The revisit ... Read More:

right then a double album where the two discs reflect the different styles that the guys want to play. good idea but does it work? well um yes very well you dont get the mixture and variety vibe like you did on iv but instead you get to shake your ass to top drawer hip hop on the skull disc and bang your head to metal on the bones disc. the best bit is the sheer fact that it seems like the boys are showing off by doing hip hop thats as good as ever and then teaching the nu-metal boys a lesson by writing hip hop/metal songs that easily outstrip the childish fumblings of limp bizkit and linkin park. bizkit and park wish they had a song half as good as rock superstar and the sister song rap superstar leaves the gangsta competition looking like chumps ... The follows in a similar way to the soundtracks of other Tarantino-related movies records. The big difference with this (up until the Kill Bill films) is that some of these songs have been made to order and not a mix of resurrected oldies and forgotten gems that you normally get. The style of this soundtrack is Tex-Mex-flavored blues-rock and includes certain pasages of dialogue from the film. Like most soundtracks that use soundbites, they only work if you know where they come in the film. To the casual listener or someone who has not seen the film, they do not add anything to the experience. This is a minor gripe however.
There is some good songs. The presence of such names as Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Blasters, and ZZ Top guarantee that ... Read More:

After eagerly ripping open the wrapping of the CD on the day I bought it, I listened and my foot couldn't stop tapping! Then my whole body joined in - I got so carried away with "She Bangs", whirling around the round, that I pulled a muscle in my back. I spent the whole weekend flat on my back. Thanks a LOT, Ricky!

CD1 opens with Pete Roderiguez' tight Latin soul mover 'I like it like that' and closes with the now infamous Mambo No. 5 in its original trumpet-piano beauty. Whilst not everyone will know it by name the popular Latin classic 'Oya Coma Va' (Santana's version) opens CD2. Whilst under the heading Latin this superb compilation manages to include everything from Latin samba to 1990's Latin house, the later of which concludes CD2 in the quite masterful 'Guallando' by Fulanito with its heavy basslines and incredible accordion sound. The songs in-between are hardly fillers either with an emphasis placed on big names and popular tunes (such as the Cuban 'Guantanamera'), as well as the odd rare gem. This is the perfect introduction to anyone looking to take their first ... Read More:

Jennifer Lopez's debut album is a mixture of different styles and sounds but is fairly subtle in doing this. There's pop, latino, rnb and a bit of dance added into some of the songs (especially Waiting Fot Tonight). If you like your pop music you should like this.
However, I only gave this album 3 stars because no way are all the tracks good. They can get all to samey, but then again there are quite a lot of songs on the record.
I have about 5 songs that I really really like, these are;
- Let's get loud, a fiesty girl powered latino dance number.
- Feelin' so good, has a heavy, pure Rnb vibe and features rapper Fat Joe. Third single to be released.
- Baila, probably the most lively and energetic song out of the lot, is strongly ... Read More:

Can not compare to the Live in San fransisco album (for me). But still damned impressive guitar work. Some sweet melodies and fingerwork. Much more attention to the overall compositions and less on virtuosity. Generally much more laid back than thier live album 16 odd years previous.
But, this album has style, and I like it a lot none the less.
If you're looking for the franticly extreme skills shown on "fiday night in San fransisco" you wont really find it here.
But for beautiful flamenco atmosphere and noodling galore, buy this!

My husband and I really love this album. The songs are easy to listen to and are very uplifting. If you have an open mind about music then give it a try - you're sure to love it!
