This album was Astrud Gilberto's second LP after the virtual disappearance of the Verve label. This won't probably convert a lot of new fans but, for those who have previously been seduced by Ms Gilberto's incomparable rendition of smooth, soothing, relaxing and magical music - a gentle blend of samba, pop and the odd jazz inflections - it should prove a delight. I find it as fresh today as when I bought it in 1972. There is a mixture of English and Portuguese lyrics and Ms Gilberto authored or co-authored several tracks. Eumir Deodato provided the first class musical arrangements and played alongside a small group of ace jazz musicians. I particularly enjoy the contribution from Airto Moreira on assorted percussions. The sound has been carefully ... Read More:

If there are any works that cry out to be recorded in the new high quality multi-channel formats this is one of the leading contenders. Gustav Mahler actually wrote this work to use the space of the auditorium, placing the horns for example off the stage area, to give a sense of wonder and awe at immense powers at work.
Zubin Mehta with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra excel throughout. The soloists and choir performance excellently at every level; at times hushed with reverence, then exhultant as they sing to the heavens. The recording engineers have found a perfect balance in the recording placing the soloists, Nancy Gustafson and Florence Quivar, so that they soar above the chorus sublimely which is especially noticable in the Etwas bewegter ... Taken from the band's show in Detroit in 2001, Live Volume offers a good clean sound that neatly represents COC's hard-core power. Despite the brilliant Reed Mullin being replaced by Eyehategod's Jimmy Bower on the drum stool, the sheer quality of the band as a live unit is evident here, displaying the hard riffing that has become the band's trademark. All the recent hits are here, with favourites "Albatross", "Clean My Wounds", "Wiseblood" and "King of the Rotten" all finding their place and the latest release, "America's Volume Dealer", is well represented with the likes of "Congratulations Song", "13 Angels" and "Who Got The Fire". The one true failing is the lack of material pre ... Read More:

My class love this! The music and singing are excellent. It is very American and sometimes 'cheesily' so. They could have slowed down some of the speech but otherwise very entertaining.

When I bought this,it either didn't say 'dvd audio'at the time or I didn't see it;so be warned! If you're a Who nut like me,go ahead and buy it but don't expect to see him live-only hear him. Some good pictures of John and most of the tracks are good to hear, perhaps with the exception of Cell No.7-definitely not his best...(on this disc, anyway)If you're a life long fan like me,you'll probably get it the same as I did and hopefully, you won't be disappointed. You'll just expand your collection of the greatest bass guitarist that ever lived from the best maximum R&B band that ever existed.I dearly love everything I own by him and The Who but I don't necessarily like all of it,if that makes sense.Hope you enjoy it.Long live J.E.,K.M. and The 'Oo!
