I first got into electronic music a while ago, and frankly couldnt have asked for a better induction. I was recomended this by a friend when I said I liked the electronic stuff on Kid A and he told me that most of it was influenced by this man.
He was right, Shadow is a genius. His skill with a drum machine is matched only by his skill with a sampler and his talent for mixing, perfectly capturing an ever shifting mood with changes of tempo, time signature, key, instruments and genre. Its all captured here, like a beautifully preserved insect in a peice of amber. Jazz, soul, blues, and that ever present loaded-gun backbeat, tying every interesting sample and gorgeous melody together into an amazingly cohesive journey of beats.

This album is so awsome it was the very first daft punk album i got and it remains a personal favourite, it is a sound track to their anime dvd- interstella 5555 which complements the mood and tone of each song.
After hearing this album i am now a big fan of daft punk and their music.

In a discussion recently I remarked to a friend how Nine Inch Nails are the only band who [in my opinion] have never made a bad album. However, I now take my comment back. While the production of the album is first rate, the songs fall far from the industrial noise come conceptual evolutions that have propelled Trent Reznor through the last decades. The opening track (999,999) gives intriguing promise, only to give way to the disappointing melodic electronica that doesn't subside. There is one diamond in the rough though; The Four of us in Here Are Dying. However this instrumental is not enough to rescue the sinking ship that is 'the slip'. Ultimately this album feels little more than Trent Reznor and friends jamming in their studio. Full marks for being ... Read More:

This 2-disc cd is probably one of the best dance cds you will buy in 2008
Paul van Dyk is a genius! To be honest, his mix of My House and South Beach was undeniably awesome
other favourites are "I Retro", "Freakshow Disco no.2" and "No More alone"

It's a shame that artists can lose their flair - maybe not forever. This is a major disappointment - can't tell the difference between tunes on this one. Hello Everything was a let-down. Ultravisitor a lot better. I'm not an album person. Rate each tune individually in iTunes and you'll see they get better backward chronologically. Big Loada & Hard Normal Daddy are the best. I'm waiting for the next best new...

I think some of the less favourable reviews have missed the point somewhat. I can't believe anyone bought this album having heard the singles and actually expected something serious, but there you go. Takes all sorts I spose.
Like The Mighty Boosh, Calvin Harris somehow manages to pull off the difficult trick of being very silly and very cool at the same time. That's what you're getting here, nothing more and nothing less. Dance snobs had best look elsewhere.

This is without doubt my album of the year. It's infectious hooks mean that you cannot help but sing everytime you listen to it. My favourite songs are probably Unforgettable Season, Feel The Love, and Far Away. If you like this you should definitely check out The Presets - Apocalypso. Its a lot more dancy but is also full of hooks and is another great album and they're also from Australia. Australian music is obviously in a good place right now.

I was still quite young when the disco craze hit the world, certainly way too young to enjoy what was going on in nightclubs, not too young to enjoy the music though! My favourites at the time were undoubtedly this band. I recall dancing to all the hits at school disco's and once at a very magical evening trip to a local ice rink disco, with the youth club. But as well as stirring memories of the the late 70's and early 80's revisiting these tracks creates thoughts of just how stylisticly variable, vocally accomplished and downright excellent this band was! They deserved a lot more credit way back when and they do know. I defy you not to want to dance like crazy to "use it up" and "back to my roots" and I absolutley defy you to listen carefully to "native New Yorker" and not feel ... Read More:
