First of all I just have to say that this is quite probably my favourite ever cd! I have never felt compelled to write a review before but this CD is just so good that I hope other people get it and enjoy it as much as I do!

I have started to get into the Global Underground series more recently as I looked to increase and improve my dance cd collection, which was fairly limited to stuff like Leftfield, Underworld and lots of chillout music like Cafe Del Mar. After much research into what was seen as quality dance music by reading reviews on Amazon, I bought Sasha's Ibiza mix (GU13) first and enjoyed some tracks, but found it a bit trancey for my liking. Serve Chilled: a Return to the Brighter Side of Chill

This has to be the worst Served Chilled in the series. The first two were amazing and the third was pretty good, but this is just horrible. There are some really bad tracks on this compilation, that upset the whole flow. This Is Not A Love Song by Nouvelle Vague for example. That song alone made me hate the whole cd.

I've never heard a chillout cd that annoyed me, but this one did! Stick with the first three and forget this album ever came out!

UK Garage The Album: The Sound Of 2000

The second CD is the dark mix, which is harder club garage, which is not quite my scene, but i know that the tracks were all happening in the clubs at the time the CD was released. The first CD is the light mix, which is more commercial garage. Every track is brilliant especially the DJ luck + MC neat-aint no stoppin us. If you only buy 1 garage album and you want all the biggest tracks that sum up garage in 2000 then make it this one

Gu34 - Milan: Limited Edition

Another compilation in GU's 'new style'. GU seems to be swinging away from progressive house and exploring new sounds. Felix Da Houscat's mix is frankly not as easy to listen to as most progressive house compilations. Its not 'melodic' in the sense of what most people would call 'melodic' (i.e. like Mozart!).
However, of course there is melody there - its just more challenging to find it. I find that if I pay attention then I really enjoy this mix. If I'm distracted slightly then it just sounds 'noisy'.
Its a rewarding music experience, but not an easy one. I think you will either find it stimulating or just downright obscure.

Cafe Del Mar - Aria Vol.2

At first it sounds like you are in for some psuedo classic/pop 'fusion' in the mode of 'hooked on classics'( YUK !)but this has genuine quality.
The drumming is too prominent and is a cheap distraction to an otherwise very good album. Barcarolle and Ave Maria are both excellent. Barcarolle has some brilliant orchestral backing and the whole thing is a great version of an original which is equally beautiful ( hear a version of the original in the film 'Life is Beautiful' to get the full impact).

The Classic Chillout Album Vol.2

This album has the same chill-out qualities that the original had but with a sometimes heavier beat. It has a lot of tracks that have what I would call "urban pulse"...you know the sort of thing, you could imagine walking through club-land to the well paced steady beat that forms the background to many of these tracks - Clubbed to Death is a classic example (Dido has the same feel). I defy you to stand (or sit, or lay) totally still when listening to this album. It is so soothing and relaxing, without being insipid, that I have used it to get to sleep after a stressful day on many an occasion.

Classic Euphoria

Acknowledging all the other reviews that reinforce the point of this being a classic revisit of some of the last 10 years' biggest tunes, I really want to outline that Ministry of Sound ownership also represents possibly the biggest thorn in Euphoria's side.

If we take a look at the first Euphoria albums, we can see some real honesty and new ground there. Seldom-heard-of-on-mix-compilations talent like PF Project, Matt Darey, Agnelli&Nelson and Jay Burnett, these guys were given a task to put together an album that said what they wanted to say.
