Yet another stunning album from the Lions Den. I bought this after going to Gatecrasher at the NEC 2001, and after witnessing what I can only describe as the best club experience I have ever had, I was in search of an album that reflected that momentous occasion: cue 'Gatecrasher Digital'. Three epic CD's to take you from sundown to sunrise. The first CD eases you in with a progressive feel and dark beats. The first track 'Turkish Bizaar' by POB & art of trance is a meloding and somewhat uplifting opener that sets the feel for the rest of the CD. Further peaks come from tracks like 'Sepia' by Max Graham, 'Mirage' by hemstock and jennings, and the fantastic 'the legacy' by Push. The second CD pushes up a gear and dives ... Read More:

It's a strange irony that this entry of the Hed Kandi "Winter Chill" series is billed as a trip through "the darker side of chill." A number of the artists that appear on this unmixed 2-disc compilation actually make up mainstream downtempo fare: Moby, Thievery Corporation, Underworld, etc. Despite that, this disc is a pleasing, if unchallenging, mix of warm grooves that doesn't break any new ground but overall serves as a nice companion for those frosty nights indoors. Solid tracks include the mellow "Another Try" by Nova June, the pretty "Missing" by Eric Kupper with Roy Camembert, and the bluesy "Beautiful Crazy" by Space Raiders. Other interesting cuts include Underworld's "Sola Sistim" as well as a not-half-bad cover of R.E.M.'s "It's the End ... Read More:

2007's No Promises, made before Carla Bruni became Mrs Sarkozy, was a surprisingly good album considering it's concept. A French-Italian super model setting music to 11 classic poems, including works by the likes of WB Yeats, Emily Dickinson, WH Auden and Dorothy Parker...who wouldn't want to avoid that like the plague?
But here we are, 12 months down the line and Bruni has done it again. Only the one song is in English this time, You Belong To Me, and this proves to be a wise move. The bubbly Je Suis Une Enfant is one highlight, the breathy and sophisticated sound of Le Temps Perdu is another. But in reality there's not really much on the album that you wouldn't want to listen to again and again.

Not a patch on the previous 3 Hed Kandi releases, although it is an "old skool" mix set, it's still not the best there is. There are a handful of great tracks, but mired in obscure and lack of depth oldies. Hed Kandi is at it's best with the modern mixes such as the 2004 Winter CDs.
If you want an alternative for a old mix set, I suggest MoS or Cream.
