As with a good wine ageing well so this album from 1999 is tasting just great to me having stumbled across it in a sale only 9 years later! The Thievery Corporation excel in blending together so many 'world music' sounds so seamlessly over laid back trippy beats and this offering is just perfect. Its packed with so many good vibes you could confidently leave the whole 60 minutes worth on for the chillout phase of any cool party. Its perfect for any time of day really!

I have been listening to psy (or goa) trance for well over ten years now (in addition to other styles!) and can honestly say that this offering from John OO Fleming is fantastic. For many years Jon has produced/mixed/been at the forefront of good quality trance music, but often on the more "commercial" side - his reactivate mix cd from the 90's was totally awesome, and with these three cd's, he has demonstrated his fantastic ability to turn his hand to more "underground" trance referred to today as "psy". I've kind of listend to this collection in reverse order - the 3rd CD, produced with the digital blonde, is a guaranteed trance stompathon - very full on, lots of great sounds and melodies, a seriously good listen! There isnt much to say really apart from being a collection of mediocre tracks. Doesnt fit into my ideal collection of chilled out tracks that capture my mood and personally I found the experience entirely forgettable.

I'm not going to get caught in the gushing gooey Sasha trap. I've listened to the album a few times now and can't quite sum it up. There are moments of genius (aren't there always with Sasha?), but I can't help feeling that this lacks some of the imagination of Involver. It needs some breaks, more lushness, more melancholy, more something.

That said, I've checked myself before it's too late.... my expectations of Sasha are probably higher than that of any other DJ. Here-in lies the problem. If anyone else had released this, I would be extremely impressed. I know Sasha is even better than this though. The mix however, still gets 4 stars because it's very pleasant on the ear and in fairness the man has evolved his sound again, like he always does.
