The price of this and the previous volume attracted me to this- the Lee 'Scratch' Perry box-set and the recent Don Letts compilation have turned me towards dub.

This CD warrants a place in anyone with eclectic tastes record collection- it's great to chill to, to smoke to...to pass the time. Plus, it gives ideas for artists albums to buy from the Blood & Fire label- who like Trojan have reissued lots of their classic works.

Hard to say what the best tracks are here- they're all brilliant- though Max 'Chase the Devil' Romeo's track is excellent in its extended dub form. Another fave is Impact Allstars 'Easy Come Dub', as is 'Two Face Rasta', 'Mama Look' and Gregory 'Night Nurse' Isaacs 'Slave Master'- which has a great ... Read More:

This is a top notch collection of classic tunes produced by Jo Jo Hookim at his family's Channel One studio, some will be familiar to anyone with more than a passing acquaintance with mid-70s to early 80s reggae, others less so.

It's well mastered too, in terms of overall punchy sound and good bass, however where I have been able to compare tracks with the original singles (e.g. Leroy Smart's "Ballistic Affair") it's clear that it has had extra reverb added at the mastering stage, presumably to give it a "bigger" sound. Personally I don't have a huge problem with this as it works well and still sounds great, but some people will undoubtedly find it annoying and want to hear these tracks exactly as they were originally issued, particularly ... Just about anything released on the Soul Jazz label is a guarantee of quality but maybe .just maybe Studio One Rockers is the best of the lot. The title Rockers is a bit misleading. What it essentially means ,as far as I can tell , is up-tempo for everything on this collection will your fleshy bits jigging half a second before your brain catches on.
So it's all as the sleeve note say "Classic Reggae". For anyone uninitiated in real reggae, as opposed to the diluted homogenous fluff that occasionally infiltrates the charts this will be a revelation. For anyone well versed in Reggae this will be a revelation as well. Let's just say its revelatory stuff. nice reggae grooves from don carlos, perfect production from junjo lawes and tight backing from the roots radics. this album has all the ingredients for success and a success is what it is.
