Great CD despite the relativeley short running time!
I know this comes under the Death Metal banner here but there's a groove to this that recalls the biker rock of Circus Of Power & Guns N Roses.
Also a VERY strong Motorhead influence here.
Also the vocals and rhythms recall Biohazard at their heaviest!
If you like Hardcore/Crossover, then you are gonna like this!
Raw guitar tones, in your face bass and not a single duff track!
The Hellraiser interpretation is interesting, with the gothic feel and heavy use of samples from the 1987 classic.
A strong Death Metal release, with a hardcore edge!
I'd recommend Biohazard's Kill Or Be Killed if this is your bag......

I seem to be in a rather small minority, but this is my favourite Obituary album.
The secret lies in structure - of the songs themselves and of the album as a whole. Tardy (John) sounds as agonised and unintelligible as he ever did on previous releases, and the guitar is equally heavy (although perhaps lacking a bit of dirt). The difference is that the songs seem to go somewhere. Whereas previous albums (to my humble ear) were a load of great ideas joined randomly in a line, the songs here are just that - songs!
Settled mostly in the slow-to-mid tempo range, the album truly gives the impression that the band is constantly tormented by nightmares, the dog has eaten all their money and food, and that their dark world is bereft of any hope ... Read More:

Suffocation's debut album Effigy of the Forgotten is rightly regarded as one of the all-time classics of brutal death metal. With this release Suffocation really took death metal to a new extreme, and alongside the likes of early Cannibal Corpse and Malevolent Creation defined a new brutality to the genre. This is so unrelentingly brutal that first time listeners may not initially appreciate the quality of the riffs and vocal / drum rhythms on display, but give this a few spins and all will become clear. Scott Burns gives the album a great meaty production (something that the band sorely missed on their disappointing follow-up album Breeding the Spawn) and the bands tight playing is leagues ahead of that of their debut mini-album Human Waste. 1995 was probably quite an intimidating time for Morbid Angel. The whole grunge/alt. rock thing was starting to really get into high gear. On the heavier side of music the word 'industrial' was starting to be mentioned in closer and closer circles to the mainstream. Extreme metal bands must have been wondering what, if anything the future held for them. This is somewhat evident on David Vincent's last studio album with the band and shows the only discernible signs of compromise in their long and eminent career.

Bootlegged in Japan

As the title implies, this is an official release of an unofficial bootleg recording from Napalm Death's `Diatribe' tour. As such the sound quality is obviously inferior to the bands earlier `Live Corruption' album, though it seems to be sourced from a mixing desk recording and is decent quality for a bootleg. Released a few years after the fact means this release smacks of a hastily cobbled together contractual obligation album from Napalm to Earache records, but it's a fair recording of a mid-period Napalm Death gig, and as such probably the only place you'll hear such oddities as Shane Embury `rapping' on `Cursed to Crawl'...

Deeper Kind of Slumber

This album is experimental without doing anything too wacky or mixing too many disparate genres.
It seems bizarre how 'Deeper..' mixes up aggressive cyber-Goth numbers with calm, peaceful ambient tracks. Despite the contrasting moods the album has a strange consistency.
