This EP follows the more straight ahead nature of the previous two releases, rather than the cluttered, insane genius of the 'Cacophony' LP. Lethargic and atmospheric, this is hardcore (if thie band are at all categorisable) at its darkest and most isolated. Ambient buzzing guitar inhabits space between pulsing drums and the meandering, darkly melodic bass lines that lead the way. Nick's vocals are less outlandish than on previous recordings, though still maintaining dark atmosphere.
This will please peni followers, especially those irritated by cacophony's wierdness. How does a band who are so simple and (in theory) generic sound this unique? RP, using base elements, create something entirely other.

One of the top five death metal albums of all time, this monster towers over most releases of its ilk. There are often arguments over whether this or 'Altars Of Madness' is Morbid Angel's classic album. A parallel can be drawn between these arguments and the 'Reign In Blood' vs. 'South Of Heaven' debate. Like 'South Of Heaven' was a progression for Slayer after the breakneck pace of its predecessor, 'Blessed Are The Sick' was a direct progression for Morbid Angel. There wouldn't have been much point in them putting out another record like 'Altars Of Madness'. That album was famed for its sheer brutality but, for my money, this album is far better because of one thing: variety.
Following the obligatory death metal intro - one and a half ... Read More:

The first section of this CD - Emperor - is fantastic. With the original style of I Am The Black Wizards, it's a must have. 5 out of 5.
Wrath Of The Tyrant, although good, is not quite of the same standard as Emperor's other offerings. It hankers after similar sounds to other early-ish black metal bands, but fails to reach the same heights as bands like Darkthrone. Still, not a bad set of recordings. Just not brilliant.

I love this album. Morbid Angel at their very best. Not quite so hellbent on speed and noise, this album allows for more subtleties in its selection of tracks. The wonderful 'Fall from grace' with its droning, drawn out guitar sound is the epitomy of evil and sums up the whole atmosphere of the album. By cooling the mad chaotic speed that is present on previous records (Alters of Madness for example), Morbid Angel create an album that has, as I have already stated, an atmosphere. They've created evil! Though they haven't totally done away with the fast riffing as there is plenty of that served up with most tracks to satisfy those who need their shot of aural speed. There's even a touch of death laden funk with 'Ancient ones'. Highly energetic and incredibly ... Read More:

Moonspell's blend of dark and bleak lyrics mixed with tight guitars and drumming creates and very interesting and listenable CD.

And on par with their 3 predecessors; it contains elements of the 3 of them, retaining the speed, agression and their hardcorish thrash/speed-metal signature sound. Their first after a 4 year hiatus and the departure of their famous drummer Dave Lombardo now incorporating the competent Paul Bostaph. Problem is the band were moved from one studio to another( to a total of 4) so production is quite inconsistent but once you're familiar with the record it starts kicking ..ss bigtime.

Play this CD in your car, and you probably won't get out of it until the the end any one track. A collection of intelligent and vibrant interpretations of traditional as well as contemporary pieces in the South American Style. The singing, guitar and pipes will stirr up an inner passion..... This is one CD that you will probably like - young or old; and for many years to come. It has always ranked in my top 20 out of my 700 CDs/Records that I have collected. If you buy this and like it, then you will also probably enjoy Buena Vista Social Club and I highly recommend a group called "Simentera" from Cape Verde - if only they had someone to promote them world wide......

This isn't just the finest Black Metal CD ever made, its one of the finest records ever made by anybody. Emperor's debut was one of those CD's you thought could never be suppassed. But it was, and in spades. The songs, the musicianship, the production. None of the bands subsequent releases ever quite came close to their first two CD's. Simply incredible
