I want to get something clear here, The detractors argue that this is Slayers "slow" album, have they not heard Seasons in the Abyss? This album is not as slow as people make it out to be.
My fave Slayer album, yes, not every song burns at 1000rpm like RiB but it shows that Slayer were prepared to branch out and I'm so glad they did, this album is an absolute classic! South of Heaven the song is one of the greatest openers to any album in any genre, I love how it fades into Silent Scream which is probibly the only weak track on the cd.
Everything else is pure gold, Everything from Behind... to Spill the blood is perfect, Slayer crafted a brutal thrash album thats also hints very very slightly at melody, which is no ... Read More:

the term classic must be applied to this seminal release by the superb emperor, its a true classic album,in some ways it is black metal and in some ways it isnt as its so catchy and melodic and if you compare this to immortal or darkthrone there is a big difference, keyboards and trumpets are very much part of this and it is emperor that brought beautiful melodies to black metal and made it more commercial, there is not one bad song on this, the melodies will rip through your spine and stay with you forever, the song i am the black wizard is a notable highlight,if every genre has an undisputed classic then this is that album for operatic black metal

I'm not too sure why no one has written a review of this yet, or why it's unavailable..but what I DO know is that this is an important ND album that's definately worth owning. Between the 45 second harsh songs on Scum and the "return to form" of Order of the Leech, ND diversed intensely in their sound, and I think this is a great example of their creativity. Some would say it's boring and uninspired, namely the hardcore metalheads who just look for the fastest riffs and the most brutal drum sound, and no, this isn't the best Napalm album, but it deserves a listen at least.
Find it at all costs! Try and get the Digipack version for the bonus tracks [which are also very good]

You wanted to here them live, well you asked for it! Growling vocals from David Vincent (his last album as a band member) and screaming guitar work from from Azagoth, as you might expect. A good compilation of songs from the band's classic set list, notably 'Day of Suffering' and the timeless Death metal anthem 'Chapel of Ghouls'. Check it out!

What can be said about this now classic album. The first Entombed album i brought was 'to ride....'which i thought was fabulous, next was same difference which had a cleaner sound to it! I then decided to get to the roots of Entombed and brought this album, just over a month ago!It has barely left my stereo since! 'left hand path' is my personal favourite track here,as well as 'supposed to rot' and 'but life goes on'. Though the whole of this album is strong, aggressive, brutal and very fast!Buy this album now!!if not then buy a Robbie Williams album cos you're obviuosly beyond salvation!!!!

This compilation album brings together a number of non-album tracks from Entombed circa 1991-1996. Perhaps most interesting here is the 'Crawl' EP material ('Crawl'/'Forsaken'/'Bitter Loss') due to the unique presence of Orvar Säfström on vocals, though it has to be admitted his death metal rasp is rather generic, and as such it's not suprising his stay in the band was a brief one. The 'Stranger Aeons' single gives us a pair of intense tracks ('Dusk','Shreds of Flesh') expertly showcasing the bands early full-on death metal assault, while the B-sides to 'Out of Hand' ('God of Thunder'/'Black Breath') are an explicit example of the bands shift from death metal to 'death and roll' with covers from Kiss and Repulsion - two bands who could hardly be further ... This debut must rate as one of the most spontaneous and evil releases of all time. Although the lyrics are extremely satanic, they are not as silly as on later Deicide releases and the numerous bands that followed in the same vein afterwards.
The voice of Glen Benton needs to be heard to be believed and "Lunatic of Gods Creation", "Sacrificial Suicide", "Oblivious to Evil" and "Dead by Dawn" remain as some of the best examples of quality death metal songs ever written.
Also, whilst the album and band were certainly controversial for the time, the cover is intriguing rather than overtly offensive (such as a certain early Marduk release!!)
