As the follow up to Cradle's immortal "Cruelty and the Beast", this ep had a lot to live up to. So consequently, a lot of people hated it. Unfortunately, I think the ep has been greatly underrated, as if you can get past the fact that it is completely different from anything else COF ever wrote, it is totally fantastic. The title track is probably one of the heaviest things the band ever wrote. Brutal, aggresive and manic, this song alone makes the price of the ep worthwhile. This song is followed up by the disturbing "of dark blood..." which is also blisteringly heavy, yet with beautiful backing vocals by the angelic Sarah Jezebel Deva.
The 2 covers are interesting to say the least. Their cover of Misfits' "Death Comes Ripping" ... Read More:

As with the original 'Leaders Not Followers' EP this release is comprised entirely of cover songs, as Napalm Death take a trawl through the 80's bands that inspired them. The material is about an equal mix of hardcore punk bands and very early death metal bands ranging from such famous names as Sepultura and Agnostic Front to more obscure artists. Inevitably most of these songs are a lot more simplistic than Napalm's own output, but their primitive raw power gives them their own charm, and Napalm themselves blast through the material in typically mayhemic fashion. The CD sleeve contains some helpful and occasionally amusing liner notes on the history behind these songs, and the disc contains a CD-ROM extra live video performance of 'Low Life'.

Candlemass were the first band I saw live in 1988. Back then in the days of thrash metal they were playing the slowest, heaviest songs going. The slow pace allowed so much more power and emotion to show through. Imagine a great loss in your life, accompanied by the release of letting go. That describes Candlemass. And, 'Nightfall' is one of the best metals albums of all time and it was sad to see them disappear. This album matches Nightfall, especially as it benefits from a better, heavier and more modern sound. No-one has ever matched Messiah's haunting and majestic singing, especially when doom metal bands in recent times usually have second rate death metal vocals. I think only Solitude Aeturnus or Trouble have ever come close to matching Candlemass. ... Read More:
