Some would class this album in the gothic-metal genre, but with its symphonic rock influence this album certainly has a much wider appeal.

Madylion opens very strongly with what's probably the Gathering's best-known song, Strange Machines. The album goes from strength to strength, creating a dreamy atmosphere which can transcend you in to a trance like state if you let your mind wander free.

On a more conscious level, the songs are put together well, the album is well-produced, and brings out the best of the Gathering as a band in general and of vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen in particular. November Coming Fire: Remastered

Although this is probably Samhain's best album, it still pales in comparison to anything the misfits or Glenn Danzig (solo) have done. The production is ropey and the song structures are not very well thought out. However, if you can get past these downers then it is worth getting purely because it gives you an idea of what Danzig was doing between the misfits and his solo stuff. His solo stuff is still the best work he's done, especially the first and second albums.
