Obviously, to most people, the most well-known thing about this album are the song titles, particularly the infamous track 7 (I'm sure the good people at Amazon would be compelled to censor it if I typed it in even though it's printed at the top of this page). However, that regrettably overshadows the fact that this is actually one hell of a good Death Metal album. The stand out tracks are, for me at least, the unmentionable number 7, and the opener, Hammer Smashed Face. Just check out that bass solo! As for the rest, it's textbook Cannibal Corpse; nice meaty riffs, the occasional solo, plenty of blastbeats and, of course, Chris Barnes' lower-than-thou vocal delivery. Yes, I know, George Fisher is a far better Death Metal vocalist, but Chris ... Read More:

This is just about as good as death metal can ever get (short of Napalm Death or Cannibal Corpse), the lyrics are suprisingly clear for a death metal album, this also means that they are catchy(only to a certain extent) and also you remember just small parts of songs, you remember one line that is really catchy and end up listening to and liking the whole album. The songs will at first sound slightly samey, there will be no obvious differences but once you get into the music you see diferences as clearly as ever. The songs have all have their own tempo and theme, however the theme throughout the album as with all Deicide is a clear and obvious pissed off at God feeling. This is an album that is the sound of a band at the peak of their career, ... Read More:

This debut must rate as one of the most spontaneous and evil releases of all time. Although the lyrics are extremely satanic, they are not as silly as on later Deicide releases and the numerous bands that followed in the same vein afterwards.
The voice of Glen Benton needs to be heard to be believed and "Lunatic of Gods Creation", "Sacrificial Suicide", "Oblivious to Evil" and "Dead by Dawn" remain as some of the best examples of quality death metal songs ever written.
Also, whilst the album and band were certainly controversial for the time, the cover is intriguing rather than overtly offensive (such as a certain early Marduk release!!)

The signs weren't looking good for Malevolent Creation's 4th album - their previous album Stillborn (some good songs but dire production) had taken a critical mauling, they'd parted ways with their record label Roadrunner (in common with every other decent death metal band after the genre was no longer trendy enough for the label in the mid '90's), and had lost the talents of vocalist Brett Hoffman and drummer Alex Marquez. Against the odds Eternal is one hell of a comeback album, and ranks up there as one of the best albums the band ever released.
First off the production is excellent, with searing guitars and powerful drums. This is the album where Malevolent Creation started piling on the blast-beats, and drummer Dave Culross is so good you've forgotten ... Read More:
