So, someone please tell me the audience isn't really looped? In that case this is awful. How could anyone listen to it without constantly thinking about the fake crowd?
It sounds to me like the audience was in the studio, as Slayer have claimed since. Still, the shouting does sound very staged. i think this is because there was a small amount of people there, so the roar of a real gig isn't present.
Anyway, this an OK album. I really like Slayer, but I do not feel much affection for their really early stuff. Even Hell Awaits. I enjoy stuff like this if I'm in a real Slayer mood, but otherwise it's the mid-career stuff (or even God Hates Us All) every time.

I was a roadrunner/tampa/scott burns/earache/sweeden/entombed fan when the death metal/grind-core scene was at a peak in 1991. I became a shoegaze/electronica type fan around 1992, and have not been a metal fan since, but if I had to make a top 10 albums of all time chart, this album would be right up there, possibly in 3rd place. I honestly believe that this is one of the best pieces of music ever recorded. Nu-Skool Slip-Knot and Ukranian-suite-pea-Gay fans will never get this, but "cause of death", in my mind is better than "reign in blood". This album still gets me hyped like no other. If you are old enough to remember this album and don't aready have it, buy it. If you are into limp bizkit and slip-knot, Buy this album and reign in blood and learn ... Read More:

Release Date May 01, 1995
Having given up on their attempt to become the fastest and most technical death metal band in the world, (something they were never going to achieve once the likes of Suffocation arrived on the scene and moved the goalposts), Deicide returned to the habit of writing hook-filled songs with recognisable verses and choruses for their 3rd album Once Upon the Cross. With noticeably more standout guitar riffs than on their previous 2 albums, Once Upon the Cross sees the band hit a new high, with some classic catchy tracks like When Satan Rules His World and They Are The Children of the Underworld. The album is also noteworthy for its cover artwork, which in true old school Cannibal Corpse fashion was deemed so offensive by the record label that it had to be hidden ... Read More:
