Napalm Death's 3rd album Harmony Corruption remains a controversial album amongst the bands fans, as it represents a huge change in musical styles from the bands previous two albums. For the second time in their relatively short career this album marks an almost complete change in band personnel, with only drummer Mick Harris (now the only remaining member who actually played on Napalm's first album Scum) and bassist Shane Embury remaining, while out go vocalist Lee Dorian (who would go on to form Cathedral) and guitarist Bill Steer (who would go on to further success with Carcass) and in come new vocalist Barney Greenway and guitarists Jesse Pintado and Mitch Harris.
While the first huge line-up change in Napalm Death ranks saw ... Read More:

You all know In Flames. You know the score with this band. Colony, while not drastically different to Whoracle, is a natural progression on the sound with tighter playing, more concise songwriting and generally its just a bit more together.
It also shows a great deal of variety. Embody the Invisible is a great opener with a wickedly cheesy lead and almost a punky feel to it. Scorn and Coerced Coexistence are classic In Flames which brilliantly show of a fetish for twin guitar melodies and uplifting leads. And then the title track with its tight grooves; a great head-banging number. The best has to be Ordinary Story and the brooding Zombies Inc, which show that In Flames can easily match speed and aggression with atmosphere and ... Read More:

Well, I think so anyway. I want everyone who likes metal to hear this album. Where to start?
This album sees COF at one of their two career peaks (the other being the ambitious and flawlessly executed epic Damnnation And A Day, 7 years later). Before Vempire there was The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh, another one those records that 'purists' like to pretend they like even though anyone with ears can hear that its just a badly produced 50-odd minutes of nonsense with comedy keyboards and indecipherable vocals. Post-Vempire Cradle went a different direction, firstly with the slighty-TOO-gothic Dusk... And Her Embrace, then with the self deprecating Cruelty And The Beast and From The Cradle To Enslave releases, before getting back on the ... Read More:

First of, this album is absolutely fantastic. Satyricon's last two albums, 'Rebel Extravaganza' and 'Volcano' have started to pull away from the traditional style of black metal, by creating a much more underground & industrial feel.In this album, they have done it perfectly. Frost's drums are still lightning fast, thunderously heavy and his use of the toms creates a superb rumbling effect. The riffs are mean, perfectly executed, and sometimes screechy, once again to create a superbly mechanical atmosphere. Most of the songs are played at supersonic speed, hence the title 'Supersonic Journey', but are brilliantly punctuated with slow, heavy parts. This is by far my favourite Satyricon album, and I hope they make another with some of the elements from this one. ... Read More:

I want to get something clear here, The detractors argue that this is Slayers "slow" album, have they not heard Seasons in the Abyss? This album is not as slow as people make it out to be.
My fave Slayer album, yes, not every song burns at 1000rpm like RiB but it shows that Slayer were prepared to branch out and I'm so glad they did, this album is an absolute classic! South of Heaven the song is one of the greatest openers to any album in any genre, I love how it fades into Silent Scream which is probibly the only weak track on the cd.
Everything else is pure gold, Everything from Behind... to Spill the blood is perfect, Slayer crafted a brutal thrash album thats also hints very very slightly at melody, which is no bad thing, Toms voice was ... Read More:

It has to be tough for slayer. This is the band who defined what a certain brand of metal sounded like, even what it could sound like. Reign in Blood was the record I wanted to hear in 1986. It was the yard stick by which I measured not just metal, but all extreme/noise music. I spent years trying to find another record that would give me that same hit. Now here is that record.
Nothing inbetween has offered that same visceral brutality. Like Reign in Blood this is an album that takes my breath away, I find myself listening to a track, then replaying it, just to relive the sensation. It somehow leaves me feeling clean, in the same way that you feel purged after a fist fight, not clever, but in touch with something elemental.

I'm amazed that a band so young could produce a work so accomplished as Dusk and Her Embrace. Cradle Of Filth are a band I've grown to love over the years and this release is definitely top of their discography. The eerie but beautiful intro of Humana Inspired To Nightmare is one of the best Cradle openers and sets the mood perfectly for the rush of heaviness on Heaven Torn Asunder. Dani Filth's vocals are the most evil I've ever heard, in fact I'd say this was the album he pushed himself to the limit on. The guitar melodies and riffs are amazingly good and where the odd solo appears it's a joy to listen (see if you can hear the nod to Iron Maiden of a few of them). The drumming is tight and precise as I've ever heard and the vocal passages and backing from Sarah Jezebel Deva enhance ... Read More:
