There can't be many disco albums so lacking in filler - I'd never heard any of the non-single tracks here until I bought this, and they're all good songs with the fine Sledge vocals and peerless Chic rhythm section, mostly relatively downbeat but definitely still disco.
Meanwhile the three classic hit singles are present in longer versions here. The first two tracks, He's The Greatest Dancer and, particularly, the awesome Lost In Music, benefit hugely from being longer but are essentially the same mixes as the single edits. We Are Family, however, at well over 8 minutes, definitely outlives its welcome. This is entirely because Kathy Sledge is allowed to adlib solo over much of the track and, given the overall quality of the ... Read More:

Diana Ross had not had a big UK hit since 'Love Hangover' in 1976 when this album was recorded. I love it, because it's the album that introduced me to the music of Diana Ross and in time many other Motown legends.
This is not a typical Diana Ross album as there are no traditional ballads. Instead we get a succession of cool grooves from Chic's Edwards and Rogers with Diana's sumptious vocals over the top. Apart from the obvious charms of 'Upside Down' and 'I'm Coming Out' the outstanding tracks are 'Now That You're Gone' and 'Tenderness' (a minor hit in 1981).
This album is equally loved and loathed by Ross fans but whatever your opinion it shows Diana as a serious album artist rather than a singer of hit singles. The deluxe version allows you ... Read More:

There are so many FGTH remixes out there that I didn't even know that 808State did a remix of "Two Tribes" or guitar legend Gary Moore played on a remix of "Warriors Of The Wasteland". Both of these tracks appear on these discs but they are not necessarily the highlights.
The "WOTW" Attack Full Mix is a three part remix. The first is the instrumental (play it loud) and the third is Holly Johnson's expertly manipulated vocals layered over pulsating synth drums and screaming rock guitar. The word "sublime" springs to mind. For me, the Broad extended remix of "Rage Hard" is the definitive mix. Peter Rauhofer's Doomsday Club Mix of "Relax" is vastly superior to the annoying Sex mix which is really showing its age.

At long last remastered editions of four of Boney M's fantastic albums with extra tracks.
I first got all of their eight albums from Germany when they were released in 1994.
Oceans Of Fantasy was Boney M's fourth album. It was released in 1979 and contains the hits Gotta Go Home and I'm Born Again and non-UK release El Lute. It also has My Friend Jack which was a UK single in 1980 and the excellent b-side I See A Boat On The River. The only comment here to make is Hooray! Hooray! It's A Holi-Holiday their Summer 1979 number three single is not on here.
As well as the four remastered albums released in the UK, there are still four more available but may not be in the UK. There are Boonoonoonoos (1981), 10,000 Light Years (1984), Kalimba De Luna ... Read More:

It seems that George was not the first choice to record Rock your baby. It was written for KC and the Sunshine band, but despite the lead singer of that group being a co-writer, it proved to be unsuitable, so another singer was sought. Gwen McCrae (George's wife) was then chosen but didn't turn up for the recording session. George therefore recorded Rock your baby, which subsequently became a number one hit in Britain and America. How lucky can one man be?
Subsequent releases made less impact, especially in America. George nevertheless managed to make the UK top ten twice more (I can't leave you alone, It's been so long) and just missed the UK top ten with I ain't lying. George also had three minor UK hits (You can have it all, Sing a happy song, Honey). ... Read More:

You really can't fault the selection of tracks here (with the possible exception of the Ritchie Family, which made me laugh out loud on hearing it for the first time here). Classics all, and not always the obvious ones.
But as someone who loved every second of these tracks when I first bought them on 7-inch vinyl, it was incredibly frustrating to find that the tracks overlap very slightly, so you lose those ecatatic moments at the start and finish of many of them.
The cue points at the start of each track are sloppy too, so you catch the end of the previous one even if you wanted to skip it.
And in order to squeeze 44 titles on, several tracks are faded out early.
If you're just a casual listener/dancer, you could ... Read More:

I bought this album on Marketplace because it was going cheap and I loved Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat... little did I know that it was one of the best albums I've ever had.
Jam packed with dance floor anthems and political chansons, Jimmy's single collection is a must have. Reading the back of the box and the song list, I must admit that many of the titles weren't immediately familiar but after one session with the CD I realised that I knew every tune. Each one of them is fantastic, whether it be the uplifing YOU ARE MY WORLD, the thought provoking AIN'T NECESSARILY SO or camp classic COMMENT TE DIRE A'DIEU. This album won't disappoint.
I just want to know where Jimmy is now and why he's not still charting - he could just re-release some of the singles ... Read More:

...it's OK, but how could ANY compilation of Human League music claiming to be the "Very BEST" omit the song "SECONDS"...?!! I dunno, call me an idiot, but I think that was their one truly great song. Not exactly a dance hall hit, but at least it meant something!
