When i heard "If i cant have You" on the radio the other day it conjured up The Bee Gees, Saturday Night Fever and Yvonne Elliman. But i couldn,t name another song, nor could others that the artist had done. Immortalized in Pop history by one song surely not. So i picked this collection to get a feel for the artist and add it to my collection(Female Section). Expecting some sort of Disco album what a surprise its quite smooth and mellow, late night music containing all her British and American hits. I Cant Get you out of my mind, Love Me(another Bee Gees penned song) no 6 in 1976. First impressions a nice album from an artist who should have had many more hits than she had.

I bought this album on Marketplace because it was going cheap and I loved Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat... little did I know that it was one of the best albums I've ever had.

Jam packed with dance floor anthems and political chansons, Jimmy's single collection is a must have. Reading the back of the box and the song list, I must admit that many of the titles weren't immediately familiar but after one session with the CD I realised that I knew every tune. Each one of them is fantastic, whether it be the uplifing YOU ARE MY WORLD, the thought provoking AIN'T NECESSARILY SO or camp classic COMMENT TE DIRE A'DIEU. This album won't disappoint.

The Ultimate Christmas Collection

Side two of this cd has almost worn out because it's played so many times over the Christmas period. From the classic White Christmas by Bing Crosby to Driving Home For Christmas it's just brilliant from beginning to end. If this cd doesn't get you in the festive spirit, nothing will.

For those of you who prefer Diana's music from the beginning of the seventies onwards this is one of the best compilations around. Although Motown have now put out Diana Ross and The Supremes 40 Greatest, it confuses the buyer as we tend to think it's just that, Diana with The Supreme's. The truth is the latter half of it is Diana at her best in the early 70's. This compilation feature's hits from the 70's leading into the 80's and show's a number of sides to Diana's music. The ballads and blues are covered by the sublime "Endless Love" and "Goodmorning Heartache", "Touch Me In The Morning", and "Theme From Mahogany". This is definitely a classic Jacksons album,which has been given a 30th Anniversary makeover.I am sure that most people have heard the 2 big hits from this album Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body(Down To The Ground)but this album contains so many songs which are not so well known,but which deserve a hearing,and as a bonus you get the full 12" mixes of Boogie and Shake which very rarely turn up on CD.

Like lots of Reggae/ Carribean Soul this album really strikes a chord when you are under the influence. The groove is somewhere between Church singer, Soul rebel hornplay and slow reggae drift groove to your average man in the street.
But then you listen to the album as a whole while really relaxed and you actually wonder how an album can be created that is so utterly timeless and even verging on futuristic! I believe this album was one of the first Reggae albums to use a drum machine and it augments the Dub styling and core Religious values along with the knowledge that Max Romeo was a down and dirty dub artist before and after.

This good value compilation provides several classic tracks from Big Barry which do not appear on The Collection of his biggest hits. True, there is also a bit of forgettable filler from the late 1970s, but the selections from his early 70s albums show him on top form, and were on his first Greatest Hits LP back in 1975. Particularly notable are Honey please, I've got so much to give, and the impassioned Standing in the shadows of love - which puts the Four Tops version in the shade (if you'll forgive the pun). The original single mix of Never never gonna give you up is included, and interestingly It's only love is the number later covered by Simply Red.

Yes, Village People made music on the most commercial side of disco, they had a cheesy image and were somewhat manufactured. But their material ruled the charts as it appealed to a far wider audience than just the disco crowd. They made a happy, singalong sound, and some songs like I Am What I Am, San Francisco and Macho Man had anthemic qualities that ensure their popularity even today. This collection of hit singles concludes with a brilliant megamix comprising of YMCA, In The Navy, Go West and Macho Man. This is great party music and it has a lot of personality, more than most of today’s House and Techno.
