This is the best ever 80s collection, For the amount of songs you can get for about more or less 10 pounds, you get plenty of value for money. Combined together with the second volume, the collection becomes even better.
Some of the songs may not be familiar to UK listener as they may be predominantly American hit singles and vice versa. The only reason why I give this collection 4.5 stars is that it doesn't includes lyrics, liner notes or even chart positions but maybe that would be too much to ask for. However, I don't know why relax by FGTH is repeated in both collections which is a waste of money. Most of all, it would have been great to
include American artists signed to EMI affliated labels such as the Motels (Only The Lonely) ... Read More:

After the success of 'New Boots...', Ian Dury and his band conquered the singles market with 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick', a daft, but colourful song which hinted at the musical direction of this album. Infectious funk and gentle reggae dominates, showcasing the brilliance of the musicians backing their charismatic leader. Dury's fertile imagination continues to explore new wordplays, but the songs are overall not as hard-hitting as on the previous album. Perhaps significantly, the most impressive song is the one which most closely resembles the lyrical approach on 'New Boots...', 'This Is What We Find'. It consists of a series of character sketches, during which 'Harold Hill...finds someone else's kippers underneath his grill' and features the word ... Read More:

Evelyn back in the 70's and 80's was making the kind of sweet disco and soul music that I adore, during the 80's she kind of lost her way a little but her voice is so identifiable. Many compilations have been released each claiming to be the 'best of' or definitive collection, but this one does manage to piece together the gems that I enjoy, but alas Sony/Bmg should recognise that it's the rarer and extended versions that the fans want. But saying that this is still the best attempt of a best of to date.

What can you say about one of the most influential disco sounds of the seventies? When disco broke through the crown heights affair took the new york dance floors by storm, studio 54 led the way and this album contains dancefloor hit after hit. If disco is your bag, this CD is essential! So put this on your Hi-Fi, and dance around your kitchen, just as they did back then to the sounds of the crown heights affair.

An excellent collection at a fantastic price, snap this up. Sure you could have some 12" versions, but then you wouldnt get all these great tracks on a 2 cd set. I have had this a while and still play it often.

This CD is a perfect accompaniment to the film, Hitch. Listening to the tracks brings to mind the scenes from the film they relate to and each one makes me smile as I remember the film. The songs are a great mix of old soul classics and some more modern tunes. The reworking of "Now That We Found Love" is the highlight for me. It's a great take on an old song. Even if you haven't seen the film, this is a great CD to buy, simply because the songs are so good. Classic performances by great artists.

Barry White’s brand of sensual orchestral seventies soul is sorely missed. We can do with a bit of old-fashioned sensuality on radio these days. This love song collection includes all his work (Did he do anything but love songs?) His greatest hits from that melody-friendly decade are all here: Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More and the sublime You’re The First, The Last, My Everything. I always liked his understated version of Just The Way You Are much more than Billy Joel’s overwrought emoting on the original, and Never Never Gonna Give You Up is still as delicious now as it was back then. There’s not a bad track on Love Songs and many classics, like It May Be Winter Outside (But ... Read More:
