All of Donna Summers early albums (Love to love you baby, A love trilogy and four seasons) featured the "queen of disco" using her superb voice in a very soft and seductive way, something not so apparent on her later more well known productions.

It was during this early period that she was writing and producing ground breaking disco music with Giorgio Moroder & Pete Bellotte and there wasnt a club in the late seventies that wasnt filling a dance floor with one of her tracks.

Whilst I myself am not an Abba fan, I bought this CD as a gift for a friend who is an Abba fan. When I listened to 'snatches' from some of the tracks, I thought the CD was a copy of Abba's music and that I must have ordered the wrong item! Then I re-read the details on the Amazon site and some of the reviews and reckoned I must be wrong! I guess the fact that the two "B"s in the middle of the Abba name on the front of the CD were also 'back to front' made me wonder if this CD was a copy of their hits? Can someone please confirm? Many thanks.

Portfolio

C'mon people, even Grace didn't take her three first albums serious, nontheless the result of Portfolio is fun, exiting and quite unique. She covers songs such as "Send in the clowns", "La vie en rose" and "Tomorrow". The album starts out with a hilarious rendition of "Send in the clowns" it starts out quietly and then explodes into a ball of "Grace". "Tomorrow" is simply BAD, Grace shouldn't have done this specific track, unlike her next broadway song to come "Apple stretching" this one is tedious and horrificly bad.
"La vie en rose" is perhaps one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and Grace adds Grace to the specific event.

I can only echo what previous reviewers have said: in 1979 this sounded like a great album, nearly 30 years on it sounds like a masterpiece, its sheer brilliance has revealed itself increasingly with the passing years.

The culmination of a run of fabulous albums from 1975's 'Love To Love You Baby', 'Bad Girls' proved in retrospect to have been truly groundbreaking in its seamless blending of the disco/synth sound of the late 70s with rock-based influences. 'Hot Stuff' followed 'Love To Love You Baby' and 'I Feel Love' as the third incredibly important and influential single of Donna's career, but here it is just one gem among many. Now enhanced by extra tracks, Love For Sale is a really excellent album of 1970s dance/pop music. Besides the two massive hits: the dramatic story song Ma Baker and the hypnotic pulsating Belfast, it also contains other gems like the evocative Plantation Boy with its wistful lyrics and compelling reggae beat, a good enough version of CCR's Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and the title track Love For Sale.

Eurodisco was the sound ruling the airwaves and the dancefloors in 1977 and 1978. Although it gathered a lot of flack from music critics back then, Love For Sale's not a bad album at all whether you look at it from a pop or dance perspective.
