As the follow up to their excellent debut album 'Too Hot To Handle', 'Central Heating' had a lot to live up to. In short...IT DID. In fact, this album is every bit as essential to soul lovers as their first record. Opener 'Put The Word Out' builds slowly rather like 'Boogie Nights' but, though funky, is a little more complex a track and not quite as commercial. In contrast, 'Send Out For Sunshine' is pure summer radio and would undoubtedly have been a smash if it had been chosen as a single. The title track is more in the vein of the opener and is gritty funk before you get to Johnnie Wilders dreamy summer song 'Happiness Togetherness' which was doubled as an A side with the equally sublime 'Mind Blowing Decisions'. This is one really beautiful collection that no 60's music fan should be without. The box itself is simply gorgeous as is the 100 page book containing info about each of the groups including many photographs of the groups themselves. The 4 CDs in the box feature stunning covers and each of the CD labels depicted the record labels of the time like Deram and Immediate. Ok it may say on the box "Contains Virtually No Hits", which is fair to say as it is aimed at the U.S. Market but a lot of the groups in the collection are from the UK including The Creation, The Troggs, The idle Race and more. This elegant and innovative album took the clubs and the charts by storm in 1978 at the height of the disco boom. Of course the two hit singles Le Freak and I Want Your Love are the most immediately appealing tracks, both as pop and as dance music. My other favorites include Savoir Faire with its jazzy arrangement and the soulful At Last I Am Free. C'est Chic perfectly encapsulates the mood of an era. Together with Grace Jones' Portfolio, Donna Summer's Bad Girls, Boney M's Love for Sale and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, it is one of the best disco albums of all time. The Chic movement included Norma Jean Wright and Sister Sledge, both worth your time if you like classy dance music.

Like its predecessor 'Pure Groove', 'Pure Groove - The Classics' is a first class compilation. If you own Pure Groove buy this one as well - its worth every penny. From the brilliant opening track Ain't Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Khan, through to the final track on the second CD, D-Train's Music. Does this take you back? Very compilations to date have been as good as this one.

Five stars aint enough for this. This is the most glorious music ever made. Loleatta is THE Disco Diva, and some of the tracks on here are not only the greatest disco records ever but the greatest records period. I can't urge you enough to get hold of this 2CD set. Even if you already own her disco smashers (like I did before I got this) it's worth checking out for disc 2 on here which is full of a side to Ms Holloway I'd never came across before. Disc 2 is full of her more deep soul outings, which are brilliant and show that she wasn't a one trick disco pony.

This is a quality mix by a genius. It has a top class track selection and is highly recommended. The previous review commented that Kenny has concentrated on the breaks, but that is the point - Kenny is a beat freak. He plays good disco with a raw edge and focuses on the elements popular to modern music and house-heads (less singing but lots of of heavy beats). It features many original songs which have been re-released as house music hits in the 90's/2000 (for example but don't this put you off Armand Van Helden's, you dont know me). If you like Kenny Dope and appreciate quality disco and house music, then buy it.
