The Three Degrees were one of the most successful groups to emerge from the Philadelphia soul scene in the seventies. Their American success was limited to their Philly sound period but they continued to have success in Europe, particularly Britain, for a few years after that. Their music is a wonderful mix of ballads and up-tempo material but may generally be described as easy-listening disco music.

This collection contains most of their British and American hits, including TSOP (their only American number one hit) and When will I see you again (their only British number one hit). from the opening bars of "i feel love" you know how good this cd will be! after 8 minutes of this you go into "with your love" an unknown track but its wonderful..only available on this cd! as dance hypnotic as the predecessor! then you have"last dance" a summer classic in its 12" glory!!! amazing!!! jumping straight into the macauthur park suite.."yes we know someone left a cake out" but the 18 minute frenzy that encapsulates "one of a kind" and "heaven knows"..its a bit too much!

then into the 12" versions of "hot stuff" and "walk away"!!! if exstatic hasnt set in by now...you get "dim all the lights"...and to finish you off the full lenght versions of "tears are not enough" is a show stopper!

Many a band are considered influential , some deservedly ,some rather contentiously but what is in absolutely NO doubt what so ever is that Chic , the American disco/funk band formed in 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards , are one of the most influential bands of all time. The second Queen Album I bought - after the seminal "The Game" and Greatest Hits... Its a massive change in direction, with massively overblown production, laughably over serious in its attempt to be disco/funk/black in style, and yet it still gets played by me, unlike some of their later albums. Body Language is suggestively seductive, Las Palabras Di Amor is a good (if unspectacular ballad), Put Out the Fire is a spectacular piece of Brian May guitar and Freddy at his pouting screaming best.

Unlike most of their later more commercial offerings, Hot Space gives the band's sources for their music, and, whilst not a patch on Queen II, Innuendo, The Game, A Night at the Opera or my personal favourite, A Day at the Races, it has enough catchy sounds to get played... ... Read More:

I have to admit that I bought this collection for the disco-era tracks the boys are best-known for! However, I was surprised to find that I enjoyed the entire collection enormously! It spans almost 40 years and embraces many genres of music, all of which reside together very well! The boys may never have been great vocalists (or poster boys for that matter) but their songwriting and musical arrangements are sheer genius and are superb throughout! There is something for everyone here, but my personal highlight is "Emotion" which was a huge hit for Samantha Sang in 1978! Do yourself a favour and buy this album! You won't be disappointed!
