Many a band are considered influential , some deservedly ,some rather contentiously but what is in absolutely NO doubt what so ever is that Chic , the American disco/funk band formed in 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards , are one of the most influential bands of all time. Plus they made music so expansively enjoyable that trees would uproot to dance to it.
Their music as well as being as being sampled in countless hits ( "Rappers Delight " by The Sugarhill Gang" , Grandmaster Flash's "On The Wheels Of Steel" both sampled "Good Times" while fairly recently Modjo sampled "Soup For One" on "Lady (Hear me Tonight")The bass line from Queens "Another One Bites The Dust" was also filched from "Good Times" after John Deacon ... Their American success was limited to their Philly sound period but they continued to have success in Europe, particularly Britain, for a few years after that. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

this cd is as good as the 1st briget jones one! though perhaps with less classics. contains beautiful new songs like jamelia, will young, joss stone, robbie...the list continues! also there are relatively new songs that have quickly become adored....beyonce's crazy in love, the darkness. There's even a bit of Barry White!perfect soundtrack to bridget jones 2 and essential for any fans. maybe a great cd for valentines day? if its romantic tunes you're after, this cd has it. 9 out of 10. i would recommend it to anyone.

Original Funk: the Best of the Fatback Band

..... but better than OK for the price!

Too much from the Fatback's later stuff for my liking, which means too many vocals & not enough horns. Does include the song that some claim to be the first featuring rapping, "King Yim III"

Best tracks are Bus Stop & Spanish Hustle, both big hits in the UK pop charts from the mid 70s.

Bus Stop is all out stomping music with a great base line thru'out and Spanish Hustle has some great trumpet & sax over another dance hit.

Early disco smash Wicky Wacky is also worth a listen as is the original I Found Lovin' and Yum Yum.

The later stuff is OK, but doesn't really "Raise Hell"

I bought this at the same time as Earth, WInd & Fire's Greatest Hits. EWF's is good, but nowhere need as good as this.

I'm not really into this kind of music, but I have always liked K&tG and this is just a fun-packed 69 minutes of good time music. Virtually all of these tracks move at a fair lick and, although the lyrics are not earth-shattering deep and meaningful, who cares when the music is so good.

The singing is great, but the musicianship is simply outstanding, and great for a bop at party time.

Favourite track? Probably 'Cherish', but 'Fresh' is exactly that, 'Victory' is fabulous with it beat and 'Joanna' has always been a favourite of mine.

In the late 70's and early 80's Atlantic Starr released some of the classiest soul of the era. Songs like 'When Love Calls', 'Circles', 'Silver Shadow', 'Love Me Down' and 'Secret Lovers' remain to this day classics of the genre. This compilation, I'm glad to say, has been very intelligently compiled and genuinely includes some of the groups very best tracks. Apart from the aforementioned classics this CD includes two of the groups killer Sam Dees penned ballads in 'Send For Me' and 'Am I Dreaming' which are both dead slow southern soul at it's best (as anyone who's ever heard of Dees will know!) 'If Your Heart Isn't In It' and 'Touch A Four Leaf Clover' are nice and in the same vein as 'When Love Calls' and while the remaining uptempo tracks are not quite as essential ... Read More:
