Jazzie B has been a part of the black music scene in the United Kingdom (UK) for very many years, and is respected for playing his part in promulgating the experiences of the Jamaican sound system to a far wider audience - something which he refers to in the notes accompanying this release as having been a conscious decision to be 'inclusive' and not 'exclusive'. He is also widely recognised as being the figurative head of 'Soul II Soul', over seeing the transition from a DJ based sound system to recording artist to (however briefly) the encapsulation of a black musical experience of which the mainstream had been largely unaware.
This story has been visited previously in other musical collections which are still available, but this release ... Read More:

CAMP CAMP CAMP CAMP CAMP - and then some ! This album is just the gayest thing you'll ever hear for all the RIGHT reasons, and even though it's of it's time [1975 - 1977] it has dated very well indeed,
La Vie En Rose is superb and one of those rare occassions someone has had the balls to make a classic from a classic, nothing like La Piaf's version, it becomes itself and grows and grows with a great vocal from Grace. The production is great on side one with 3 tracks segued - all the tracks sound like they were made for 1977 gay clubs and bars but great FUN - the singles SORRY; THAT'S THE TROUBLE and [of course] I NEED A MAN are great.
This music is nothing like Grace was going to make a short time later [WARM LEATHERETTE NIGHTCLUBBING etc.] ... Read More:

Soul music had several regional centres in the `60's, and there was a distinctive sound from each, notably Detroit, and Memphis, but also in Muscle Shoals and Chicago. Equally, several labels became synonymous with a Soul sound, Motown, Stax and Atlantic, 3 of the best known.
In late 60's Philadelphia, Thom Bell was producing and arranging for the Delfonics, adding elements not normally associated with Soul vocal groups, and in doing so, providing a blueprint for what became known as Sweet Soul. Bell carried this sound with him to The Stylistics, where his writing and arranging with Linda Creed, together with the Groups vocals, created a major stir with their first album on the Atco label in 1970. Both groups feature strongly here, including all ... Read More:

I still remember the first album i bought with by own pocket money when i was eleven way back in 1989 - it was Bananarama's The Greatest Hits Collection. From then on, i was hooked on them. This album, "The Very best of Bananarama" sums up their lifetime of work and success. From "It Ain't What You Do" right up to "More More More" - all these are British pop at it's best in the 80's and early 90's. Bananarama was more than a girl-band - they were an icon that sets a standard for all all-girls bands that came and went after them. Every single track here define how great the Nana's were. Although towards the end of their heydays the hits have slowed down, the songs are still worth listening to. The best thing about this collection is the CD2 which features mostly 12" ... Read More:

...it's OK, but how could ANY compilation of Human League music claiming to be the "Very BEST" omit the song "SECONDS"...?!! I dunno, call me an idiot, but I think that was their one truly great song. Not exactly a dance hall hit, but at least it meant something!
Release Date November 02, 1998
This is the best ever 80s collection, For the amount of songs you can get for about more or less 10 pounds, you get plenty of value for money. Combined together with the second volume, the collection becomes even better.
Some of the songs may not be familiar to UK listener as they may be predominantly American hit singles and vice versa. The only reason why I give this collection 4.5 stars is that it doesn't includes lyrics, liner notes or even chart positions but maybe that would be too much to ask for. However, I don't know why relax by FGTH is repeated in both collections which is a waste of money. Most of all, it would have been great to
include American artists signed to EMI affliated labels such as the Motels (Only The Lonely) to british and european audiences ... Read More:
