"Faster" is... erm... slower! Slower than Zinc's DJ sets or compilations, anyway. But as a 'proper artist album', it's great; diverse, really listenable, keeps you interested, keeps you putting the CD back in the player. But if you're expecting an hour of mental drum & bass, try something else.

I can't believe this exceptional album hasn't been recommended by any customers yet. With the rise of Pendulum and the rebirth of Drum & Bass now seems as good a time as any to give this little classic the props it's due. 'Cos that's exactly what this record is - a D&B classic - certainly the best work Spring Heel Jack's Ashley Wales and John Coxon ever produced, and deserving to be mentioned in the same breath as Goldie's "Timeless" or Roni Size's "New Forms".

Minimalist, hypnotic and conspicuously lacking any vocal performances, 68 Million Shades is all too easy to dismiss as coffee table music by the hardcore junglist. Its waves of strings and rolling piano chords can make some of its tracks ... Read More:

The album flows well from one track to another, making the album a great piece of listening in its entirety.
'Carpet Muncher' has to be the highlight of the album for me, a happy bouncy drum 'n' bass concerto all condensed into under 3 minutes.
Well worth the buy.

absolutly stunning D and B...

found this when i was younger and lent it to somebody who never returned it.

Johnn B was never given the recognition he desereved for creating this album. After a couple of listens it gets deep under the skin and around 10 years on still sounds fresh.

High Contrasts best album to date from start to finish every single song is amazing! Havin beeen brought up on d n b for years, high contrast is a fresh sound and is still sounding as fresh as ever on this his thurd album, with his liquid funk style of d n b total legend!

Aphrodite

Gavin King/Aphrodite's full length debut is a good listen, but there's not enough innovation to make it last as an album, or even variation to make you listan to the whole thing over and over again.

Outstanding tracks such as Rincing Quince and Spice are the benchmarks, but rather than actually building on his own good material King has a tendency to repeat it. Odd tracks do still get put on the decks every now and again but all in all an album you're far better off with New Forms or even Timeless, which predate this by some margin yet seem to have stood the test of time better.

Big World Small World

Over the past year I have been undecided in which of smith and mighty's records is my favourite, Bass is maternal - hard hitting raw dub and bass or Big world small world, more vocal based and less inoffensive but still great all the same. And in retrospect to get the most out of smith and mighty you need them both, I cant live without either!
