Before buying this cd i'll be honest DnB was not a musical genre I really enjoyed but this album has changed my mindset on it totally...this cd is just incredible. From start to finish its beautifully mixed up with vocals and effects but still retaining the thumping bass lines that just add to the experience! Easily the best album of the year for me...highly recommended!

cd3 is fantatsic old school drum and bass at its best with particular favorites including, Remac and Lewi - Ricky and Dj SS - Black. but cd1 and 2 do kind of let the whole thing down a bit cd2 is better than cd1 apart from Commix - Talk To Frank and Dj Hazard - Machete cd1 is rubbish, whereas on cd2 there are soem stunnig mixes and songs such as Jonny L - Oh Yeah and jonny L's amazing tune Harry. But and this really annoys me when the cd track listing is wrong on the cd J magik and Wickerman's - Crazy world is listed but not on there instead replaced by the annoying 3rd degree burn by friction remix??? but apart from that it is a solid listening and good fun.

A near perfect work, well done Calibre! This album has not left my mp3 player for months, each track just grows and grows on you. Raw, funky, soulful and unique, the beat for every tune is different which is rare in this scene. Sublime hooks and gorgeous basslines!!

I first became interesed in the Verve Remixed collections a few years ago when I noticed the Nina Simone remixes on the first volume. I'm a big Nina Simone fan so bought the CD to see how her songs sounded remixed. I was very impressed and the collection of the first three CDs introduced me to a lot of artists I hadn't paid much attention to before.
This fourth collection is sublime, especially the closing remix of Ella's "I Get A Kick Out Of You". A lot of latin american rhythms feature on this collection so it is perfect for long summer evenings.
I only wish the club goers of Manchester where I live would wake up to these collections and request them in the clubs.

Noisia made their name in drum & bass but have also done some stunning electro & breaks tunes like "Gutterpump", so when I first heard this CD that is mostly tracks by Noisia themselves, I was a little bit surprised that it's not too diverse- this is strictly d&b all the way.
That said though, it is full-fat d&b with some of the thickest and noisiest basslines known to man and this is an outstanding mix. Tracks like Noisia's remix of Moby give it some serious depth.

What an album, carring on from where they left off, I think Kosheen are like a good bottle of wine they get better with age. Doesn't dissapoint, may they keep going on and on for years!
Release Date September 15, 1997
This album contains some of the finest d+b ever - perfectly mixed, well-spaced, mental aggressive breaks which are intelligently cut up and dealt with, really minimal, expert use of synths, samples and bass. It works really well. Like only the best d+b, you will want to be up dancing and sat listening at the same time.
However he asks a bit much of us with 'Aleph 1' - the separate melody, bass and drum tracks all seem out of phase. I like that kind of stuff but this one is a bit too difficult for me.
He loses the plot with '124', and descends into some other random style of music which is not good at all, lame slow beats, american-sounding.
'Form and Function' contains some similar (if a little harder) d+b, and some lame remixes. ... Read More:

Following a tour in Portugal, LAMB decided to call it a day. Citing the very definite personal differences between them, Andy and Lou chose to split up - and promptly got back together again to produce "What Sound", described by Lou as a 'heart album' as opposed to the 'head album' that is it's predecessor, "Fear of Fours". Now with a permanent band behind them (Oddur, Jon and Nikolaj), LAMB have produced an almost painfully poignant, emotions-driven and organic album, with the trademark vast, often unpredictable range of vocal and instrumental styles. Lou's Zen spitituality can be seen most powerfully in 'Small', while Andy dons his Hipoptimist cap for the instrumental 'Scratch Bass'. With the third album typically very difficult for most artists, "What Sound" breaks ... Read More:

Everyone else seems to love this album but I just don't get it.
It's very slick, polished, smooth-sounding liquid drum & bass, yes it does ooze quality, I can't deny that.
But my problem with it is that it's not very memorable. Unless you are determined to listen to it over and over then all the tracks do start to blur together a bit, there's not enough diversity or enough character in each track.
