I resisted buying this during an earlier wave of purchases at amazon.co.uk, but, the choice having been paired-down after subsequent waves, I did end up buying this eventually. There are only three or four decent tunes on the whole thing. Most of the music is very bland and lifeless. Lots of nice samples of indian instruments and percussion, but lacking bite and energy.
The Tabla Beat Science CD is much better (although completely different) - proper tabla beats mixed expertly into some proper gritty breaks, with plenty of intelligence. You will want to dance to Tabla Beat Science, not this.
However, Osmani Sounds' "Spiritual Master Key" stands out here, not as a fusion of eastern and western musics, but as a fusion of eastern ... Read More:

To be honest cd2 of this compilation is the only one i really to listen too, theres a few scattered bangers on the other 2 cds but way to much filler! Also what is hype doing with the delay effect on his mixer? He needs to sort that out big style because its ruined many of the tracks for example dillinja's in the grind - i cringe every time I hear it! There are though, on the other hand some excellent bits of mixing, like when he brings in tink ya bad from now its over - SIK! If you can find it for under a tenner than get it but otherwise sorry dj hype, must try harder

One of the interesting things about Squarepusher is that his fans cannot agree on which is his best album, and there are many contenders. But to me, this is it. I tend not to dabble in 'electronica' for too long because I am the only person I know that really listens to it; it is not the best conversation topic, especially with girls. Having said that, Squarepusher crucially gets a lot of critical attention, far more than your average trance artist, also awkwardly catagorised under 'electronica'. It is obvious why - this is art.
One of the best things about artists like Squarepusher, Amon Tobin and also, say, Murcof, is the way that within their unique sounds, they manage to incorporate other genres into their music, which, to me, gives it greater ... Read More:

This episode of Drum and Bass Arena Presents DJ Zinc takes a snapshot of DnB at the end of 2005.
The mix starts off with upbeat and feel-good tunes, the first two tracks are very good quality and lead nicely into the first peak in the mix in the shape of tracks 3,4 & 5. The tracks are not stone wall classics but are good examples of Drum & Bass development up until now. Just when it sounds like its getting hard & heavy in track 4, in comes Jenna G's soulful "Rising" which sends the mix downtempo slightly. The mix stays with the soulful/chilled vibe for the next few tracks and while it is enjoyable threatens to get boring. Thankfully this is quickly rectified and track 9 wakes you up with a Renegade Hardware style kick in the head. The heaviness ... Read More:
