"Flight of the Bluejay" is yet another excellent album from Motian and the e.b.b.b. Compositions by Monk, Powell, Rosenwinkel, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis all shimmer and swing by this sestet. the two guiatrs, two saxes, bass and drums setup is exploited fully; the sound is clean; the performance is like a ultra fine watercolour: melodies are drenched and blended by the guitarists Rosenwinkel and shoeppach, with intricately balanced intertwining phrases. The tennor saxes are right up there with modern standards and often resemble Lovano in sound. The group soars on melodies like "conception" and "celia".
