by: Jack Teagarden

Release Date February 09, 2004
This triple set celebrates the career of the admired musician during his most productive period from 1928-1947. With warmly unique trombone style heavily influenced by the blues but mixed with a hint of Dixieland, Teagarden set the standard for all his contemporaries. The Apex of New Orleans Jazz: His 25 Greatest

CD-Charts > Music > Early Jazz
by: Jimmie Noone

Release Date April 01, 1997
This CD is from the Living Era series of historical jazz recordings, and I am perhaps harsh in awarding only a "3-star" rating. This is more a reflection on the choice of recordings rather than the quality of Jimmie Noone's clarinet playing. There are 25 tracks on the CD in chronological order from 1923 to 1944. The CD covers Jimmie Noone's career over these years from 1923 when he first recorded with Ollie Power's Syncopators until a chance radio recording with Kid Ory in 1944, the year of his death. Jimmie Noone was playing clarinet in New Orleans before any jazz recordings, and his graceful and fluid tone made him sought after by numerous bands.

For me the best tracks are the first 3 in 1923 and 1926, particularly"Here ... Read More:
