This CD is a remastered version of a 1957 LP where over 2 days there were 12 recordings that all had an angel theme with an emotional or spiritual flavour. As well as playing trumpet Louis Armstrong is the main vocalist and he is supported by a choir and by numerous saxophones, piano, drums and a variety of string instruments. I respect Louis Armstrong as a master horn player and I acknowledge his success as a showman and entertainer, but this CD does not allow a proper demonstration of his great qualities.

The recordings will be welcome if your appreciation of Louis Armstrong is for his gravelly voice rather than his trumpet talent. For me there is not enough of the scintillating high notes, rich tones, delicate phrasing or superb ... Read More:
