Before Tupac,NWA,Eminem, 50 Cent etc there were three original rap artists of note... LL Cool J, Beastie Boys and Run DMC. This was Run DMCs third and best LP. They combined black pride with heavy metal and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The huge hit was, of course, Walk this Way but in fact the most "Illin'" cross of rap and rock on this collection was the title track which samples AC/DC. Other standout tracks are Peter Piper and My Adidas. After this rap music just got bogged down in bragging, violence and sexism. If you enjoy the music but are put off by the bad attitude try this, it's fun.

This was my first killah album and iv been a fan ever since he's never made a bad album and for that he should be seen as one of the best yet im sick of people going on about 50 this and 50 that he made one okay album and thats about it,so do yourself a favour and buy this album YES real hip hop.

Is much better than old Talib, although he's still pretty impressive here! There's some glimpses of what Talib is capable of, but it doesn't instantly engage me in listening, as Ear Drum did. This is a great album however you look at it though, with some great beats, a strange intro from Chappelle, and some intelligent and good Backpack rhymes.
If you've been into Talib for a while then i would get this, but if you're just starting your Talib collection get Eardrum, as you'll like it better!
I've listened to it three or four times now and it's getting better with each listen. There's no doubt that Talib is a very skilled lyricist, but the album doesn't quite match up to his skills all the way through, it sort of loses momentum half ... Read More:

Im a BIG wu fan since 98 when i bought the ONLY BUILT FOR CUBAN LINX album and loved it,from then on iv bought most of the wu's albums however at first i wasnt that keen on killah but when i bought the SUPREME CLIENTELE album i was a fan and this for me is just as good its a classic 06 was a good year for hip hop and this album is one ov the reasons,SICK killah at his best.

Bobby Digital in Stereo

Its highly rated but im not really feeling this album. Rza is a talented rapper and does a great job over the occaisional verse with the clan but I thought a whole album of him would be too much. Here rza surpasses all expectations. However this really is meant to be a producer's album and for me this is where 'bobby' fails to deliver. There are signs of the classic 'wu sound' (skeletal/sampled strings). But in my opinion although different the production is miles from that of 'cuban linx' or 'liquid swords'. I really hate the stupid 'slow grind' skits.

while reading reviews on this album i noticed they are quite mixed responses to pain is love. i dont disagree with anyone as everyone is entitled to an opinion. in my opinion i totally love this album, the beats are great and uplifting, i really enjoy listening to this. best songs are always on time, down ass bitch and never again.the skit where he is taking calls on a radio show or something is pretty cringe worthy though! i am a massive 50 cent fan but you have to give credit when its due, ja has been around longer and he blew everyone out of the water with this album. id recommend this to you if your a hip hop fan and dont get easily offended by swearing! also if you like more commercialised rap, this album is for you!!
