The Voice, released in May 2001, is Russell Watson's debut album and marks the end of his progression from the pub and club circuit, and the start of his recording career after signing with the Decca label.

The album hit No.1 in the UK Classical charts and reached No.5 in the UK Album Chart. Following its release in the US it also hit the top spot, making history as the first time a British artist has topped both the UK and US Classical Charts, and if that wasn't enough, it was awarded `Album of the Year' and 'Best Selling Classical Album' at the Classical BRIT awards in 2001.

I love Herb Alpert. The best known stuff on this album are the likes of the superlatively bouncy Spanish Flea, the sublime A Taste of Honey, the energetic Tijuana Taxi, Tetris theme Zorba the Greek and of course the theme to the original Casino Royale (the one with David Niven) which is so clever it hurts. But there's nothing on this album that doesn't delight.

Mostly it's instrumental, brass band work and very good brass it is. Like a Mariachi band. It's jolly and fun, and it gets me in a good mood and that makes it pretty fab stuff.

I approached this CD with caution given the hype that has surrounded recent appearances of both singers. I must confess that contrary to my expectations I was deeply moved by the singing here which recalls other great operatic couples of the past, Callas and di Stefano, Tebaldi and del Monaco. The recording has rarely been far from my CD player for the past two weeks.

As with the legendary couples from the past, there is something uneven about the two voices. Netrebko's voice is not a warm voice but is beautifully focused, always on the note and has to my ears a dark unjuicy quality. It is a stunning voice. Villazon, by contrast, has a voice that could hardly be described as beautiful the way that Corelli's, Pavarotti's or Domingo's undoubtedly could. ... Read More:

The idea of taking a bunch of new wave eighties classics, spraying them with French pheramones and adding some Astrid Gilberto Bossa Nova, may not appeal to everyone's taste. But nouvelle vague's original interpretations of these songs are so cheeky, irreverent and irresistable, I defy anyone not to instantly fall in love with them.
They have created the perfect chill out party album.
My favourite tracks are Sister of Mercy's 'MARIAN' and Tuxedomoon's 'IN A MANNER OF SPEAKING'. I'd not heard the original of this song, but this astonishing version is just beauty incarnate.
On the last track, a cover of The Specials 'FRIDAY NIGHT SATURDAY MORNING', a sultry, French chanteuse with the voice of an angel sings 'but the chip shop isn't closed/'cause their ... Read More:

This CD is fabulous for anyone to listen to but my 18 month old daughter has always loved it too. We play her tracks 18 till 23 (the end) every night as she goes to bed and Bing's velvet tones do the trick every night. A word of caution: these soporific songs often have the same effect on my husband and I as we listen via the baby monitor!

This album, judging from the other comments is clearly ideally suited to dancers who want to use it to dance to... Fair enough, with a title like "Strictly Come Dancing" - that's fair enough. But...

One of the big attraction for me of "Strictly" is the fine orchestra and singers performing loungy versions of popular tunes, along with some traditional dance music - this album looked great (and I didn't look carefully enough) until I found that the majority of the songs were performed by the great Bruce Forsyth; don't get me wrong - I like Bruce, he's come back better than ever and a few songs from him would be great, but he just can't carry the album.

You won't be sorry you bought this, it's nice to listen to - I'd just have liked more of the house ... Read More:

Just got into Michael and trying to get my hands on anything he has done, got his albums and the come fly with me dvd but this dvd is in a class of its own, loved it loved it loved it, he is so charismatic on stage, and the voice?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will love this, really good set list, bit of monkeying around bit of chat, but most of all, Michael, at his best.
