By making a generic statement like that, "The Man in Grey" is unkind and falls into the class of all talk big month non-achievers. Anyone who has ever heard of French sixties France Gall songs would not have made a statement of "most 60s French singers couldn't carry a tune in a bucket". I own these Francoise CDs, don't speak a word of French but thoroughly enjoy them. They contain many songs that will bring you back sweet memories of those long, hot, lazy summer Sunday afternoon of doing nothing and total relaxation. Many songs will stay in your head for ever and you will find that you want to listen to them over and over. This CD set contains songs that are also in Francoise's "Les Chansons D'amour" CD but many more and hence is a better ... Read More:

This compilation of classic easy-listening music from the fifties and sixties sold so well that two sequels were released (More music to watch girls by, Music to watch girls by volume 3). This type of music has a significant fan base in Britain as the more recent series of compilations (Memories are made of this) confirms.
This collection features three songs by Vic Damone (On the street where you live, Almost like being in love, It had to be you) and two each by Andy Williams (Music to watch girls by, Can't take my eyes off you), Petula Clark (Don't sleep in the subway, Downtown), Doris Day (Perhaps perhaps perhaps, Move over darling) and Nancy Sinatra (These boots are made for walking, Sugar town).

I must admit, I'm not exactly a fan or Tom Jones, but my sister already has this album and when I listened to it I just had to buy it. The man has an awesome voice and every track on this album is totally different. A good one to add to your collection!

Over the years Andrew Lloyd Webber has made many musicals, some more successful and appealing to the public than the others. Most people will, however, agree that "Evita" remains one of his most satisfying works to this date. Numerous reasons confirm this statement. Just like in its predecessor "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Evita" is almost entirely sung-through; the lyrics are witty and appropriate; the subject matter is again a personality larger-than-life who rises from obscurity and dies at the peak of its fame, thus becoming a legend; the score is captivating and appealing to the listener, at home or in the theatre.
Following the suit of the Superstar, ALW and Tim Rice first published Evita as an album, which appeared in 1976. It was an instant ... Read More:

Although his two biggest and most famous hits (Everybody's talking, Without you) are by other songwriters, Nilsson (born Harry Nelson) wrote a number of songs that became successful for others.
The Yardbirds were the first major act to record one of Nilsson's songs (Ten little Indians) but Nilsson didn't give up his day job (at a bank) until he heard another of his songs (Cuddly toy) on the radio, performed by the Monkees. More recordings followed including Story of rock'n'roll (Turtles), Without her (Blood sweat and tears) and - most important of all - One (Three Dog Night), which became a huge American hit.
Nilsson finally got his break as a recording artist with Everybody's talking, a cover of a Fred Neil Song that was adopted as a movie theme ... Read More:

This is a distillation of an earlier 3-CD set from Avid, about which I wrote a rave review at the time. It's a fascinating compilation, which makes up a chronological journey through Al's recording career. If you were lucky enough to buy the earlier set then there's nothing here that wasn't issued earlier, but if you missed out then grab this now. It's the ideal introduction to the supreme singer, and excellent value for money.

I enjoyed every track on this album. One needs to sit down in a quiet, softly-lit room (preferably with an open fire), undisturbed, and listen properly with full focus from beginning to end to appreciate all its subtlties. Great musicianship, sensitivity, and variety of styles, tempos, melodies, harmonies, full & sparse instrumentations; as well as imaginative interpretations all lie within. All the various instrumental backings (all extremely well performed), from full to a single harp, compliment and empathise superbly with his wonderful vocals, which are sung with great feeling. Using this album as background does it a total injustice. Every note has to be savoured for the album to be fully appreciated. Some other negative reviews say it is depressing or dull. I ... i wanted a compilation that contained a bit of eveything, well this certainly does. it has eveything from the well known songs to the less well known and even speeches that were headline news of the day. it made me think what it must of been like during those terrible years of war for the soldiers and for those left behind to cope. i would thoroughly recommend buying this, it made my day listening to this wonderful war time music which we dont seem to get these days, how sad.
Anna Netrebko's `Opera' album I think successfully builds some bridges to satisfy today's broad range of opera listeners.
There are a growing number of singers who are taking on opera music and including it in their repertory, often to the dismay of those dedicated followers of `real' opera who believe it should be left to those able to perform an entire on-stage theatre performance. Undeniably though there is a public desire to hear short, familiar opera arias and excerpts which provide enjoyment as stand alone pieces, and I am fully in favour of any artist, whether truly qualifying as an opera singer or not, taking on anything providing they do it well - a good singer can sing a three minute aria, an opera singer is required to sing the other two hours ... Like everyone I know, I first heard Julio when on holiday and his voice, even many years later, brings a warm feeling whenever I play his CD and I confess that I play it more than any other single CD I own.
Yes, some tracks work better for me than others but this is not just a greatest hits but an ultimate hits copllection.
His voice envelopes everything, bringing smooth flowing sound that is pleasing even if you are not listening but rewarding if you are.
This collection lifts him to the position of the number one European singer of romantic love songs.
I don't have his other CDs - there is no point this is the collection to have.
