I have loved this album since it was released. It is sounds strange the first time it is heard. If you like it will become part of your life and part of your soul.
I saw the Penguin Cafe Orchestra play at Islington Union Chapel in 2007 when they played three concerts. It was one of the most astounding concerts I have seen. The atmosphere was electric with excitement that was shared by both the audience and the players alike.
The music was, apparently, created by Penguin Cafe's founding member so that he and his friends could meet and share a common interest. Not many works are created for nine musicians from very different disciplines; two violins, a cello, a saxophone, an oboe, pianist and trash percussion. ... Read More:

This being Harry Nilsson's most popular album (garnering three major hits), is Harry's most entertaining album. Every song is upbeat containing romantic, rock, silly and torch songs filling your ears. "Down" pushes the envelope of reckless rythym and blues abandon, while "Jump Into The Fire" showcases the same frantic voice working a drum/bass line that never lets up. "Without You" is his most known song, a true tear-jerker and "Coconut" will make you laugh or drive you nuts. Finishing off with the romantic "I'll Never Leave You", Harry Nilsson pulls on your heart strings. Richard Perry did a marvelous job of production; probably one of his best and for the perfect voice.

I was given this album as a Christmas present, and I can only say it's one of the best presents I've ever received! Lots of old favourites are here, including 'Sosban fach' and of course 'Land of my Fathers'. But for me the highlights are a truly rousing rendering of 'Men of Harlech' (enough to make even an army of the dead want to rise and fight!)and Bryn's impassioned delivery of one of the greatest of hymns, 'Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven)'. Even if one is not religious (and I am not), this must surely move all who hear it - it had me in tears. It comes from the guts, and it goes straight to the guts. Terrific stuff!

I only realised that Charles Trenet was the singer of such classics as La Mer when he died. I am not of his era, but I bought the CD and it is superb. I can put it on in the car, in the middle of stalled traffic, and be transported to the French countryside. And my 3 year old daughter also fell in love with it.

No surprises here, of course -- Enya didn't achieve new age superstardom by challenging anyone's expectations. This album is every bit as hushed, lovely, and soulless as everything else she's ever done; like a perfect angel food cake, it's sweet, soft, and utterly lacking in nutritive substance. There's nothing the matter with angel food cake, of course, and there's also nothing really the matter with The Memory of Trees, though its Druidic theme does smell awfully trendy (nothing was quite so hip as neopaganism in 1995), and it steers so strictly the same melodic and textural course she's been following throughout her solo career that you're tempted to wonder why anyone would want to spend the money on what amounts to a complete rehash of her earlier work. ... Adam Faith was one of my favourite rock n roll stars of all time, like Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, and Cliff Richard. My favourite tracks was 'What Do You Want' and 'Poor Me' and 'Someone Else's Baby' and the traditional revival of Nursery Rhyme song of The Animals Came In Two By Two' 'Johnny Comes Marching Home' from 1960. 'The Time Has Come' from the 1961 film movie, and with The Roulettes 'The First Time' And 'We Are In Love' and 'If He Tells You' and 'I Love Being In Love With You' and also 'Someone's Taken Maria Away.
My dad likes Adam Faith, the another groups were Freddie And The Dreamers, The Animals.
Anna Netrebko's `Opera' album I think successfully builds some bridges to satisfy today's broad range of opera listeners.
There are a growing number of singers who are taking on opera music and including it in their repertory, often to the dismay of those dedicated followers of `real' opera who believe it should be left to those able to perform an entire on-stage theatre performance. Undeniably though there is a public desire to hear short, familiar opera arias and excerpts which provide enjoyment as stand alone pieces, and I am fully in favour of any artist, whether truly qualifying as an opera singer or not, taking on anything providing they do it well - a good singer can sing a three minute aria, an opera singer is required to sing the other two ... A sort of companion CD to the Singles Collection with songs added from the Unforgettable,Hits of Today and Sacred Songs.
With just about everything reissued there's still the Decca LP of Nursery Rhymes which Vera made with Kenneth McKellar and which should be reissued seperately.
This is one of her rarest albums
