I tend to think that Julie Andrews would be the ideal person to stand up and sing Christmas carols at a church service on Christmas Eve, and I suspect that "Christmas With Julie Andrews" is a large part of the reason why. There is a combination of power and grace that makes "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" sound like they should be should be filling up a great cathedral like Westminster Abbey, and you do not doubt for a second that Andrews could do it. This makes it all the more impressive when she tones down the power but retains the grace in songs like "Away in the Manger," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," and "Silent Night, Holy Night." This is a really beautiful album, some of the arrangements are extremely beautiful, I have always considered this CD and the LP that went before to be one of those albums that I would always like to have and play at Christmas time, wherever I might be, to listen to this album in the company of a Christmas tree with all the Christmas decorations,and good friends that is a real pleasure, this is not a CD for June, but I feel it is certainly the best CD for December and one of the best by James Last. for whom I also have a deep appreciation over many years
