Occasionally the abject unfairness of life is made only too obvious. That an ex-junkie, jailbird, bailiff should have possibly the finest deep voiced gravelly croak since Tom Waits is surely a kick in the teeth for all the wholesome, skinny-jeaned wannabe rock gods out there. Not that ML would care, or even notice. The Soulsavers duo have hitched their star to Lanegan on this album and when it's good it's very very good. Revival sounds like it's been around forever, the new version of Kingdoms of Rain is equally spine-tingling but without even the hint of redemption you glimpse at the end of the album opener. In between nothing really stands out, there's some pleasant enough electronic noodling, which doesn't really prepare you for the album's ... Read More:

I ordered this item (ASIN: B00002DE4K) from the Amazon USA site, and it DID NOT INCLUDE the bonus tracks Macro Head and Untitled. I guess those are still only available on the LP and cassette versions respectively.

I was 15 years old, utterly bored with pop music and disenchanted with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman 80's takeover. One day, I was at a friend's house and just happened to pass by his big brother's room. The door was ajar. Inside was dark. 'Sweet-smelling' smoke gently issued forth. And there was this sound, this wash of music. I had not heard anything like it before. I was immediately mesmerised, entranced, seduced, taken somewhere else by those incredible soundscapes (or was it the sweet-smelling smoke???)
This is a work of art. For my money, I reckon in a few decades or so it will be regarded as a classic, electronic symphonic work.
I saw him live in Glasgow and it was then I realised this music was as close to classical as it ... Read More:

Tim Simenon's 1995 album could be compared to Massive Attack and Portishead albums from around the same time. It's definitely got that Bristol sound, rolling dubby basslines, crisp vinyl-sounding beats. The fact it's got that feel makes it seem a bit dated but overall it's very serious but it just shines with quality from a brilliant producer. It's also good that there's a few tracks with a bit more 'kick' thrown in for good measure.
There's some high-quality guest appearances as well- Sinead O'Connor, Benjamin Zephaniah, Will Self, Justin Warfield. Well worth a listen.

what an album. Having only really just got into Richard D James' stuff a month or so back I'm quickly building up a collection of his albums and this is so far the most well-rounded album I've bought by him.
It is much easier on the ears than some of his other releases, and I like it like that. It kicks off with 'Acrid Avid Jam Shred' a 7 minute 40 second masterpiece which is absolutely gorgeous, which goes into 'The Waxen Pith' another beautiful track, acid-type bass makes way for stringy synths. Next up is 'Wax The Nip', a faster, more aggressive track
'Icct Hedral' follows, a swooping, foreboding, slightly menacing track. 'Ventolin' is the only track I really dislike, the horrible high-pitched noise which stays with it all the way through is too much ... Read More:

Judging by some of these reviews, 'Something Wicked...' doesn't appeal to a certain type of Herbaliser fan. In my opinion, the closed-minded ones. This album isn't leaning towards pretentious jazz, it's a mix of seductive downtempo grooves, fresh hip-hop and sleazy funk with some excellent production.
Admittedly, this album is a slight departure from the old Herbaliser sound, being less sample-based and with more emphasis on instrumentation - but the cheeky samples from old movies and public information films are still there, as is the clever scratching, catchy beats and awesome guest rappers. In any case, it's not as much a departure as a logical evolution of their style.
I suppose the only way you could dislike this album having been a fan of their previous ... Read More:

The Orbs' Adventures.. The KLF's White Room The KLF's (The JAMMS) Chillout Orbital's Brown Album The Prodigy's Experience are the only albums that stood out for me from the late 80's/early 90's drug fueled, carefree, acid/warehouse illegal rave days, sadly those days are long gone for me but these albums will always be around to celebrate that loved up generation that lasted for 5 years. As for the album it's good and stuff (its all been written in the other more intelligent reviews)

Ive been a fan of Hed Kandi for a few years now, and this combines a great mixture of tracks. Its nice to hear some old and new tracks, even the older tracks have been remixed to give them a new edge. Its well mixed and well compiled. I would recommend buying this as it is a true classic compilation with a bit of everything. Its one of my favourite Hed Kandi CD's and it goes down a storm when you've been partying all night!!

This album will stand the test of time as a hugely enjoyable collection of anthemic songs that worm their way into your head, even after the first listening. They got into mine and haven't left after far too many album plays for my own good.
Whilst missing some of the superb insanity-feel of the debut album "Exile on Coldharbour Lane", this album is more mainstream in its appeal with future classics such as "Wade Into The Water". This and "Sinking" are the leaders amongst song giants such as "Mansion On The Hill" and "Sad-Eyed Lady". It is not often you can buy follow-up albums as good, if not better, than a brilliant debut.
If you ever get the chance to see these intelligent nutters live - take the opportunity because you'll never forget it.
