Following a tour in Portugal, LAMB decided to call it a day. Citing the very definite personal differences between them, Andy and Lou chose to split up - and promptly got back together again to produce "What Sound", described by Lou as a 'heart album' as opposed to the 'head album' that is it's predecessor, "Fear of Fours". Now with a permanent band behind them (Oddur, Jon and Nikolaj), LAMB have produced an almost painfully poignant, emotions-driven and organic album, with the trademark vast, often unpredictable range of vocal and instrumental styles. Lou's Zen spitituality can be seen most powerfully in 'Small', while Andy dons his Hipoptimist cap for the instrumental 'Scratch Bass'. With the third album typically very difficult for most artists, ... Read More:

Beautiful.
Boards of Canada are 2nd only to whisky as the best Scottish home-grown product. Like a good malt, they're simple yet complex, intoxicating and leave you wanting more.

I bought this because I liked the title and knew Holmes had done the Out Of Sight ost. From the first playing (with headphones - the production on this CD calls out to be heard through headphones), I was hooked. This sounds like a movie soundtrack, somewhere in between the Dust Brothers' Fight Club and Hans Zimmer's better stuff.
The mood dips and rises as the samples and tunes mix together. I'm not a fan of electro-pop or anything Jean Michel-Jarre, and David Holmes is clearly not in their league. His music is influenced by hip-hop and movies.
I'd urge anyone to buy this CD and also check out Holmes' second CD Lets Get Killed (still no apostrophe), which has moments of genius and improvisation that leave you wanting to spread the word ... Read More:

I ordered this item (ASIN: B00002DE4K) from the Amazon USA site, and it DID NOT INCLUDE the bonus tracks Macro Head and Untitled. I guess those are still only available on the LP and cassette versions respectively.

Come With Us is patchily brilliant, but sounds a world away from 1999's Surrender. This is not to say that Tom and Ed should not stretch new boundaries, but the album sounds incomplete and unfocused, a weakness which plagued 2005's Push The Button. The stomping title track, with acid loops, vocoder vocals, and eclectic beats, is classic Chemicals, and Star Guitar is one of their finest achievements. Galaxy Bounce does bounce, and Hoops contains a terrific My Bloody Valentine guitar within a track that accomplishes everything. Yet from here, the album struggles, with the messy "My Elastic Eye", and the meandering "Pioneer Skies". "It Began In Afrika" made the album cut because of its popularity in Ibiza, and certainly sends you on a journey, but Beth Orton's vocals on ... Read More:

This album has a wicked sunny afternoon vibe. It sounds VERY early 90's and reminds me a little of The Grid or in places Stereo MC's classic 'Connected' album. It's a teeny-tiny bit dated now and is occasionally patchy, but is still a great slice of nostaligic post-rave, beats-inspired dance music which also features some great dreamy-ambient moments and is extremely easy on the ear.
System 7 evolved into more of a Trance-Techno act after this album, so the following styles are quite different. Subsequent classics like the brilliant 'Seventh Wave' are awesome, but this is well worth a listen.

One of those albums that never saturates your ears. I am a big GA fan and I believe this is their best. It has the best track to dig your wardrobe before going out: Superstylin, the best one to drift away while partying: Drifted, the best one for an after party mellow chillout: Lazy Moon, the best one for the cabride home: Raisin the Stakes and the best one to clean your toilet next morning: Fogma. You will not be disappointed!

Well, I've only been listening to this album for a day now and I already love it. Although its not the Orb's best album (a la U.F.Orb), it has some quality tracks on it e.g. the big beats of Ubiquity, the techno-ness of Asylum, the bounciness of Toxygene (which wasn't commisioned from Jean Michel Jarre, that was just a joke made by the band). Also, the album has an obvious oriental quality to it, which also helps me like it because I like parts of Chinese/Japanese music. If you're an Orb fan add it to your collection, if you haven't heard them try U.F.Orb or Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld first, and if you don't like them then...what are you reading this for? Buy and Bye.
