It seems that Fatboy is taking a pasting again. Perhaps the context of this mix has been lost on some reviewers. It's live! (albeit edited in places because of the length of the set..). Some of the mixes DO rattle and aren't perfect, but this provides a refreshing change from the Pro-Tools perfected mixes being produced in studios and tagged with a DJ's name, purely because he/ she chose the tracks and the programming.
I love Norm's 'devil may care' approach. He happily crosses genres, mixing house into techno, breaks into progessive, etc etc etc... He doesn't try and take you 'on a journey'. Oh - it's a fabulous cliche and should be reserved only for the likes of Sasha & Digweed, who really do take you on a journey, but again ... Read More:

If there was a 'problem' with the original New Forms it was that although it opened a lot of new doors for the drum'n'bassy side of electronic music, it rarely if ever broke out into full-on actual drum'n'bass. It was more jazzy and abstract, often having stretches of build up that would lead into more build up, then kind of nothing... These new 're-licks' are effectively VIP remixes of the originals and they all sound designed for the dancefloor, rather than the headphones/beard-stroking room. For example 'Brown Paper Bag' is transformed from a monolithic 9-minute prog-jazz freakout, to 4 minutes of punchy jump-up (complete with an MC), but it still retains its weird, dark edginess. Likewise, if the original of 'Heroes' was a bit too downtempo and ... Read More:

This album ranges from nice to not very interesting, and there are no real flashes of inspiration or ideas that make it greater than the sum of it's parts. Nearly all of the tracks consist of a simple repeating bassline which doesn't change throughout the track and is simply decorated with pretty electronic riffs, some improvised vocals and various slick sounds. The immediate effect is very pleasant but there are almost no chord changes or key changes or surprising melodies that make you sit up and take notice, the tracks are more like simple sketches that have been highly polished and extended to a ponderous length and tend to leave you craving something really interesting that never actually arrives. It's a shame that they are so good at production ... Read More:

This is a great starting place for anyone new to Aphex Twin. If you are already an Aphex fan then you've got this. Unless... well, then, you better buy this one quickly and not tell anyone that you didn't own it at one point.
If you know anything about Aphex Twin then you already know what the music on this single is going to sound like. Also, unless you don't own a TV, you have probably seen the video to the title track late at night. If you haven't, then, it's like the front cover but moving. Also, if you don't know anything about Richard D. James and his wonderful music then the songs sound like that cover.
The title track is his usual mix of genius electronic music, loud and abrasive drum - I'd like to say beats here, but, really it's less ... Read More:

I had heard of the Babes some time ago. But had not had the opportunity to listen to their music. To be honest, i thought the music would be some sort of New Age rock. And it was not until actually seeing them at a festival and thus hearing their music, that i realised how DIFFERENT and true to their name that they actually were. I immediately started looking for an albulm, and was drawn to Undrentide. And was quite happy that i had made this choice. As the whole albulm is hauntingly melodic, beautifully sung and full of medieval magic. And just pure in content. Also, the fact that the artists sing certain songs in olde English tongue, and in some parts Latin, was most impressive. A very creative, unusual albulm that does manage to transport you to the old times!

This album contains some of the finest d+b ever - perfectly mixed, well-spaced, mental aggressive breaks which are intelligently cut up and dealt with, really minimal, expert use of synths, samples and bass. It works really well. Like only the best d+b, you will want to be up dancing and sat listening at the same time.
However he asks a bit much of us with 'Aleph 1' - the separate melody, bass and drum tracks all seem out of phase. I like that kind of stuff but this one is a bit too difficult for me.
He loses the plot with '124', and descends into some other random style of music which is not good at all, lame slow beats, american-sounding.
'Form and Function' contains some similar (if a little harder) d+b, and some lame remixes. If ... Read More:

This is Thievery heaven. Knowing nothing of this group nor anything of '18th St. ' or 'lounge' music etc. all I can say is that this was a staggering introduction! I have since bought all the other Theivery co. albums and yet still return to 'Dance on Vaseline' and 'Boof N' Baff N' Biff' et al, despite the solid roots-dub / Latin feeling to the earlier albums that is traditionally more to my taste. This is chill-out paradise. Buy it!

Funky trippy jazzy electronica. That's about all it takes to sum up Moloko's colorful debut "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?", which never stops with the wild sounds and cool bizarrity. Whether mixing airy organ with drum'n'bass or dipping into acid jazz, there is never a dull moment here.
"I dreamt that I was dreaming, I was wired to a clock,/Tickled by the minute hand tick tock tick tock," intones Roisin Murphy in a weird, robotic voice. Behind her is a swirl of piano and funky dancebeats, occasionally straying off into mellow electronic tones. And that's just one song.
In the songs that follow, Murphy and her bandmate Mark Brydon alternate bizarre electronica with weird little skits (like "Tight Sweater," which is just Murphy asking if we like... ... Read More:

J. Cumiskey said it best when he wrote in his review of this album: "The last song 'Help Yourself' is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my entire life. I won't describe it, just say that you need to hear this song, pure art. This song will make you feel at one with everything with the world and is about as close to an out of body musical experience as you will get."
Help Yourself is now one of my favourite songs of all time! Trivia: it was used in "The Other Final", a wonderful 2003 Johan Kramer film about a soccer game between Bhutan and Montserrat, the two lowest ranked teams in the 2002 FIFA world rankings. This game was played the same day as the World Cup final between Germany and Brazil. It's a fantastic movie (documentary actually) and the track ... Read More:
