I first got into electronic music a while ago, and frankly couldnt have asked for a better induction. I was recomended this by a friend when I said I liked the electronic stuff on Kid A and he told me that most of it was influenced by this man.
He was right, Shadow is a genius. His skill with a drum machine is matched only by his skill with a sampler and his talent for mixing, perfectly capturing an ever shifting mood with changes of tempo, time signature, key, instruments and genre. Its all captured here, like a beautifully preserved insect in a peice of amber. Jazz, soul, blues, and that ever present loaded-gun backbeat, tying every interesting sample and gorgeous melody together into an amazingly cohesive journey of beats.

Brilliant collection with most for their hits (up to mid 2007) on it, and containing lots of bits that have been used in adverts and on the TV shows such as 'Dancing with the Star's etc'.
In addition, it contains some excellent 'Get up and go' music for those long dark winter mornings when you need to get out of bed and go to work: You will be dancing while you make the toast with this lot on your CD player! Basically, a must have for every CD collection.

There are few bands who can be considered to be peerless in their musical creativity. Like so many bands before and since, though, their back catalogues are obliged to be condensed into singles packages for the mass market, which is fine by me.
Song To The Siren sets the tone, and the message is that you must turn the volume up louder. By the time you reach the musical beanstalk that is The Private Psychedelic Reel, you might be physically in your lounge or kitchen, but mentally you will be in a souped up Citroen Saxo doing donuts at your local Asda.
This is a great album for the casual fan, the kind of person that tunes in to their live performance at Glastonbury, and turns it up loud on Radio 1!

It's a real grower, this album. When I first listened to it, I couldn't see what the fuss was about, really. It sounded just like another chill-out CD, albeit better than the others. But after repeated listens, I started to appreciate how accomplished it was. The mix is so seamless that you can't work out where one track stops and another begins. Basically, if this is a chill-out CD, then it pretty much redefines the whole genre. This is not about loosely stringing together some nice tunes; this is about sounds, tempo, and rhythm. Normally with a review, I'd point out the good tracks, but in this case it's pretty much irrelevant here. The tunes picked by K&D merely help them achieve the tempo and rhythm they want. Each tune has been masterfully tweaked ... Read More:

I don't know how to find the words for how much i love this album. Its been such a big influence for me and many well known artists out there wouldn't be making music today if it wasn't for The Prodigy and especially music for the jilted generation. Fat of the land is based more on big beat and punkier sounds. This album is all about original techno and rave.

Quiet Village manage to release the most accomplish debut of the year. This album is the best soundtrack to a movie never made and hopefully the directors that counts will give the chaps a call (Quentin are you reading?). This reminds me more of Morricone that Radio Slave (Matt Edwards is half of QV), so techno fan watch out. This is the best balearic/soundtrack album you will buy... in an enormous long time.

What the gibbons has happened to Bjork? She wants to be different and 'unique' and she used to be those things BUT for all the right reasons.
To my ears it seems that, whereas on most of her previous albums (Medulla not included),she came up with great tunes and then wrote the song around the tune, now she seems to be doing it the other way around but forgetting to include any cohesive TUNE in the final mixes. It's such a shame because, let's face it,she is,after all a very, very talented musician and vocalist (i have seen her live in Manchester and her singing is so much better live)and songwriter.Medulla stretched me to fever-pitch whilst trying to find its attractions and, difficult as it turned out to be,i finally succumbed to my internal pressures of frustration and ... This isn't just an album about one track, "Singin' in the Rain", there are other equally good tracks here too.
This is like a cross between "Lemon Jelly" and "The Chemical Brothers" in their more musical moments.
Not so fast that you cant lounge around if you like but has punchy dance beats running right through for those "getting ready for a night on the town" moments and house parties.
Haven't heard their other albums but am going to give them a try after hearing this.

Autobahn is one of Kraftwerk's more conceptual offerings, attempting to capture the essence of a drive along the titular motorway system, in a way that predates the similarly expansive concept of 1977's Trans-Europe Express. It's perhaps less fully-formed than that particular album, or certain others that would follow (most notably The Man Machine and Computer World), but it does have that distinctive Kraftwerk charm and a sound that refuses to date!! Unlike their later albums, Autobahn features snatches of "real" instrumentation amongst the layers of robotic synths, most notably the drums - which have a less mechanical and more propulsive feel to them here - and the guitar - which pushes the title track more towards progressive acts like Pink Floyd (particularly the early sound ... Royksopp is a wonderful find, and in particular Melody A.M. The group have, and with great success, produced a collection of tracks with great continuity and, I must add, respect for their listener's ears. It is truly a delight to put on this record. Although the tracks can be soothing, and ideal for chill out, I thought a few allowed you to do anything but chill out. Poor Leno in particular is sexy, and creeps up on you when you're least expecting it.
Brilliant.
