In Push The Button, Tom and Ed seem determined to answer the blunt critics of their 2002 album Come With Us with a record that is likely to please lovers of dance music, but not necessarily those that grew up with the creativity of Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender. The tracks which bookend the album, "Galvanize" and "Surface To Air", are brilliant, whilst "Believe" and "Close Your Eyes" remind us that The Chemical Brothers are capable of creating something special. But this album lacks the typical Chemicals' spark and is disappointingly commercial; "Come Inside" and "Shake Break Bounce" get tired after a few listens. "Left Right" is ghastly, and confirms the album's unfocused, incohesive nature, and Tom and Ed's most unsatisfying album since ... Read More:

Like their Austrian peers, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation know how to mix and, like K&D, their "DJ Kicks" album is a class act in both its production and its selection of tracks. More down-tempo than K&D's offering but equally interesting in its sequencing, it scans a broader palette of styles from bossa-nova, through Indian sitars to deep Jamaican dub. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen?... well, not here, because in these guys' hands each track is integrated seamlessly into an hour long musical journey that's held together by lock-tight beats and overlays. Genuinely interesting and perfectly crafted it's another example of just how good "laid-back" club music can be in the hands of people who know what's out there and how it should be ... Read More:

Its not often that music is made like this - happy and summery. This is a great album to listen to on grey rainy days as the songs will take you away to sunshine and lazy days on the beach. This guy is a genius - buy his album!
Release Date April 23, 2007
I have just received this album. It is a brilliant mix of laid back tunes, a fusion of different styles of music. For example, on Disc 1 track 3 'Sleep' is a beautiful chillout song, track 4 'Yes, Boss' is a fantastic electronic song and track 5 'Koop Island Blues' sets a new standard for chilled jazz.
There are no fillers, all the music is excellent and I am already looking forward to Volume X.

The fledgling Virgin label signed two important German bands in the early 70s: Faust and Tangerine Dream. First, they released The Faust Tapes album, a collection of studio experiments and outtakes, in a Bridget Riley sleeve for only 50p (the price of a single in those days: very tempting to a schoolboy prog-rocker, I can tell you). Then along came Phaedra. Both showed aspects of so-called "krautrock" that were very different to the melodic pop of Kraftwerk, who were enjoying their 15 minutes of fame at that time courtesy of their "Autobahn" single riding high in the charts. Phaedra and TFT combined electronics (largely homemade, in Faust's case) with white noise, tape effects and elements of musique concrete, to often disconcerting and at times frightening effect. ... Release Date April 02, 2007
I was 15 years old, utterly bored with pop music and disenchanted with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman 80's takeover. One day, I was at a friend's house and just happened to pass by his big brother's room. The door was ajar. Inside was dark. 'Sweet-smelling' smoke gently issued forth. And there was this sound, this wash of music. I had not heard anything like it before. I was immediately mesmerised, entranced, seduced, taken somewhere else by those incredible soundscapes (or was it the sweet-smelling smoke???)
This is a work of art. For my money, I reckon in a few decades or so it will be regarded as a classic, electronic symphonic work.
I saw him live in Glasgow and it was then I realised this music was as close to classical as it was to electronic avant-garde. No sequencers, no ... Read More:
