A definitive jux classic, this is by far aesop rocks best album, although this sounds very different from his other (good) but inferior releases it should definately be in every hiphop collection (especially if your into your def jux). Every song is class, with the second song 'daylight' standing out the most, outstanding production from one of my favourite producers blockhead almost takes centre stage on some of the songs. If you've never heard aesop rock before i'd recommend this as your first buy, and if you like busdriver you'll probably enjoy aesops rhyme style.

For anyone who appreciates the art of breakbeat this release satisfies and stimulates at every listening. Journey into the dramatic and dangerous world of the 'wild west,' where frenetic beats mix freely with atmospheric harmony. More pacey and powerful in tempo and less experimental in composition than many of Shadow's other tracks, High Noon is Shadow letting his hair down. When he's in this mood his musicanship is on par with the work of the Dust Brothers, the greatest breakbeat composers of all time. Essential.

Judging by some of these reviews, 'Something Wicked...' doesn't appeal to a certain type of Herbaliser fan. In my opinion, the closed-minded ones. This album isn't leaning towards pretentious jazz, it's a mix of seductive downtempo grooves, fresh hip-hop and sleazy funk with some excellent production.
Admittedly, this album is a slight departure from the old Herbaliser sound, being less sample-based and with more emphasis on instrumentation - but the cheeky samples from old movies and public information films are still there, as is the clever scratching, catchy beats and awesome guest rappers. In any case, it's not as much a departure as a logical evolution of their style.
I suppose the only way you could dislike this album ... Read More:

Take my advice on this one; anyone who is idiotic enough to give this album less than 5 stars is out of their mind! This is one of the most beautifully constructed cut up abstract hip-hop break albums I have ever heard, and I don't think there could be any other album that could match it EVER (except for Nightmares on Wax - Carboot Soul, also a gem).
The man behind Prefuse 73 (Scott Herren) opens this album with the lushous 'radio attack' which sets the mood for the mouthwatering tracks that follow. 'Smile in your face' is an absolute scorcher of a track...probably my personal favourite, but every track is a classic. 'eve of destruction'- which is kinda similar to the 'Boards of Canada' style is another cracker. I could go on and on about how immense ... Read More:

More tunes from the Ninja Tune archive that really show off what these boys are about. This EP comes in two parts really, one being the remixes, the other collaborations (shock.)
First up are the collaborations. The opening track, written with Kid Koala, reminiscent of much of Amon's jazz breaks from the past. 'Ten Piece Metric Wrench Set,' with Steinski, is a must for any fan of Amon Tobin's darker moments. The remixes, unlike many, offer a genuinely different interpretation of the original tune, my particular favourite is the 'Dancehall Devastation Mix' which would be at home in any self respecting DJ's set.
All in all a fine listen, although obviously NOT a full length offering.

I cant think of many other artists more detached from the standerd template than Mike Ladd. This cat is not afraid to do things very diferent, but that dosent mean that Afterfutre is a total brain-mangler. Check the space-soul on Planet10, the infectious beat on No 1 St and a apearence from Co Flow on Bladerunners. Mike's rhymes can be kinda self-important sometimes but that dosent come close to ruining this great album. Oh yea, check his Infesticons vs. Majesticons saga too.

The first track is Tomorrow Comes Today. Good, but kinda slow. The second is Rock The House. Great, simple rap and nice melody which you wish you could play on a trumpet. Latin Simone isn't the one off the album, it is the same music but English vocals, Damon/ 2-D really does this one justice. Much better than that spanish one. Finally 12D3 is a nice little campfire song which you could just imageine the Gorillaz sitting in a circle playing. The TCT video is cool. It is real streets of London but the Gorillaz drawn on top. Very classy. You can also read a bio of the band and hear a guitar loop for the album song, 5/4. an essencial purchace, and the best mux of tracks on a Gorillaz single.
