FYI I was a little surprised to find that the album didn't have 'The a la menthe' by La Caution as used in the laser dance scene.... You have to hunt for the album Peines de Maures or Arc en Ciel Pour Daltoniens..

Fascinating, it would be unthinkable to live without it! If you like this, try the sublime Ontayso/Tim Koch release 'Where have you been'?. Both great!

The cello is the voice of mystery, of depth, of secret and dark caves in the mind of the living, in the memory of the dead. The cello opens the door to the other side of today, here, now, me, to the other side, virtual or real, virtual and real, of what our five senses can capture and even what our mind, the sixth dimension of our sixth sense, can perceive and conceive. When Tan Dun adds to this voice from beyond the grave and the fire of some terrific dragon his own sense of being within and without, inside and outside Chinese music or western harmony, he can reach the power of thunder and the speed of lightning as well as the delicate falling and landing or morning dew on the light leaves of grass that pierce the dawn with their green blades. He ... Read More:

Anybody who owns the Ryko version of this OST will gain nothing from acquiring this re-issue of Michel Legrand's fabulous score to one of Steve McQueen's coolest movies. If the score is new to you, you'll still be rewarded by getting this worthwhile re-issue. The movie may have been a triumph of style over substance, but that can hardly be said of this truly original and breathtaking score. Opening with the Oscar nominated 'Windmills of Your Mind' from a young Noel Harrison , the score takes us on a journey that swings from moody romantic tension (Chess Game) to full blown caper (Boston Wrangler), as Steve McQueen slips his way through the traps set by gorgeous Faye Dunaway.
Michel Legrand's remarkable work embraces his jazz upbringing, providing ... Read More:

Soundtracks from movies can disappoint, however, this is one that just inspires the listener to enter a melancholy mood and the haunting refrains linger like smoke circles in a room. This is one soundtrack that never gets boring, but produces visions of once upon a time in America. The movie is good too!

Subtly underpinning much of the emotional weight of the film Finding Neverland, this score -- specially released for standalone consumption, rather than simply taking the music from the film as-is -- leaves me speechless, time after time. It truly deserves its awards.
Jan Kaczmarek creates simple themes which are then endlessly improvised upon on a number of different instruments, changing from light delicate tones tinged with minor variations and filled with sadness to heavy piano work full of heartfelt emotions. Leszek Mozdzer's piano solos, specially created for this soundtrack album, add a depth to the themes which doesn't appear in the original movie score. The use of a boys' choir and various period instruments simply add to the realism and carry ... Read More:

I wasn't expecting much when I bought this soundtrack, I figured it was James Newton-Howard so it's not going to be too bad, but after listening to it the first time I was left in a state of shock!
Tracks such as "Archer and Solomon Hike", "Goodbyes", "Solomons Helping Hand" and many more are just fantastic as Howard uses the main theme in various different ways to trigger different emotional responses for the listener. The whole CD is filled with quality tracks and you can tell that a lot of thought has been given to each of the tracks.
For those who are Howard, Hans Zimmer or Thomas Newman fans I'd highly recommend this soundtrack!
(Just to point out, I liked the soundtrack BEFORE I even saw the film and my review is based ... Read More:

Along with The Lord Of The Rings, one of the finest OSTs available!
Definiteley John Williams's finest of the Star Wars Saga!
Favourite pieces: Anakin's Betrayal (Order 66), The Immolation Scene (Vader burns) & The Birth of the Twins and Padmé's Destiny (basically Padme's funeral & the Vader/Palpatine/Tarkin scene)
Dark & heavy, a fitting climax - very moving & emotional music.
