Dylan is revered. Robert Johnson, Skip James are re-discovered. But, this album by Bert Jansch is a milesone in folk blues. Vastly underated, his lyrics have am impact today and his guitar technique as displayed on this CD leave his songwriter acoustic contemporaries standing. He has produced many things since but this is his seminal work, as fresh now as it was when it left a crack in the ground. Listen.

This is completely wonderful - songwriting at it's absolute best.
I owned it years ago and somehow lost it. I was reminded of how amazing it is by an old friend of my own and rushed out to buy it - you should do the same.

I clearly remember the 1979 release of this album. I was not a dylan fan then and I think it fair to say that this album would not be the ideal gateway.
Roll on 30 years and I have been converted to the wonders of Dylan. Ok it just took me a bit longer to get it than the rest of you.
This album still remains an enigma. It sounded hoplessely out of date in 1979, time has not improved this offering. With Jerry Scheff on base I guess obvious parallels could be drawn with Presley's Vegas years. Flutes, annoying saxes this is surely a live low point. It does not get more 'Dylan live in Vegas' than this.
Put another way how did we get from 'Hard Rain' to Budokan? Search me. To be fair there are a few gems ... Read More:

I really like CD's that every time you play them something new reaches out and grabs you. American Tune is such an Album.
It's my belief that Eva only recorded a track if she felt that she could do it justice, put her stamp on it and bring a fresh interpretation to the original composition.
Most of the recordings on this CD were made in one take and have only recently been discovered. They all show her talent and that of Keith Grimes and Chris Biondo.
Forget the artificially produced unpluggeded version that other Artists put out this is UNPLUGGED in it's true and natural state.
A couple of the tracks like True Colours and Yesterday you will enjoy straight off because of their familiarity BUT the beauty of this album is ... Read More:

Well he's done it again, another fantastic album from the very talented Blair Douglas. The line up of vocal talent that features on the new album (Rory MacDonald, Bruce Guthro, Eddi Reader, Kathleen MacInnes and Michael Marra to name only a few) is testament to the regard in which Blair is held by his fellow musicians.
The lyrics and arrangements will take you on an emotional journey which should not be missed.
This album is a must for anyone at all interested in Scottish music, I'll rephrase that, a must for anyone interested in music. Blair's music can't be pigeon-holed in any genre, it is unique, quite simply in a class of it's own.

Time's not been kind to Donovan, his recordings still left alone by the very generation (ie the new alt-folk movement) which should have been enjoying him. Maybe it's an image-thing, with him never recovering credibility after the cruel savaging by his Bobness on Don't Look Back, and Donovan always seeming to present himself in the last-fashion-but-one; the Dylan cap long after Lennon threw his away, those terrible, hippy/faux-Eastern frocks from 1969...and perhaps, like Nick Drake, he should have died looking Beautiful and Tragic. Whatever the case, to listen to these early recordings (most of them made when he was only 18 or 19) is a real surprise. They're fresh and beautifully played, and with nothing fake or added in (and incidentally, contrary to received wisdom, owe more ... Read More:

Eva Cassidy's songs such as 'Fever' or 'It doesn't matter anymore' encourage one to an early start in the morning. These certainly wake you up. If you are looking for some tranquillity 'Imagine' would be a song for you. Not only can you contemplate peacefully about life, but also chill out after a long work day. This CD offers something for everyone. And if you like Nora Jones or Katie Melua, then ask yourself where they found their inspiration-definitely Eva Cassidy!

This is the most thrilling, exciting sound I have heard in ages. What amazing talent and energy! I cannot stop playing it night or day, it is so uplifting.
Even when I am not playing it, the rhythms and melodies keep coming into my head and I find myself nodding, tapping my feet or drumming with my fingers in tempo. The sound quality in general is absolutely superb, however, can anyone explain the small blip of interference between track 2 and 3 ? It only lasts a few seconds but I think this couple deserve perfection in the recording of their performance. I was also a little disappointed in the quality of the DVD production.
In spite of these criticisms I heartily recommend this album and still give it five stars!
