I was quite slow on the uptake with KOL, I only bought this album a year ago but it remains possibly one of my favourite albums and is rarely far from my CD player. I've never once got bored of it and can sit through the entire album without skipping a single track. Happy Alone, Molly's Chambers and California Waiting are possibly the best on the album. Can't wait to see them for the first time in Glastonbury! Utter brilliance.

This album has been a long time coming on cd. A top 10 hit upon release its long been unavailiable and this massively expanded edition finally puts things right.

Blancmange were that particularily 80's phenomenon of the "synth duo". However unlike the likes of Soft Cell, Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys they were musical collaborators from day one. Their debut album, Happy Families, didnt simply rely on vocals and keyboards but contained a whole slew of guest musicians and vocalists. This follow up is more of the same - musical collaborators run well into double figures and there is a real drive to create an expansive sound and widescreen palate.

The need to produce output for the purposes of the EMI contract led to some distinctly low quality rushed material from all the participants - in many ways a precursor to the substandard offerings to come later under their individual names. No longer greater than the sum of their parts, this is just four individuals showing their limitations. George Martin thought that it could have made one high quality album if the extensive dross (especially from heroin and Ono fixated Lennon) had been dispensed with, and he was right. Along Came A Spider

I've been a big fan of Alice since the 70's, I know he is trying to return to the 'Nightmare' era here, a concept album centered around a murdered called Spider.

Somehow the album get disjointed, some of the music is poor yet other tracks are top notch, I think in time it will grow on me though.

I hope he does another tour, Ive seen him many times and always enjoyed his live show, but I hope he don't tour playing the whole of this album (like Iron Maiden with A Matter Of Life And Death), I don't think it will work as people want the Cooper classics live.

Angles

Ok, where to start? Well let's take this in two part;
Lyrically, this album is genius. There are stories both serious, yet heart warming, and prompts further thought. Seriously, this should be winning awards.

Musically... I have no idea what to make of it. Some is pretty good, but a lot is not mixed properly, and jars with the flow of the vocals with semi hip-hop, electro beats that sound pretty unrefined almost as if they have been lifted from an 8 yr old sampler CD of 80's noises.

Still, for a first effort this pretty good, and is carried but the lyricist.

I hope the subsequent efforts are better balanced.

While this is obviously tailored towards a stress filled society and is to be recommended for that, I personally enjoy the relaxing music `panpipes mellow moods' which I found by accident on amazon.co.uk The cd I possess from this site have a variety of stunning sounds tailored towards the relaxation market which I can recommend anyone who is searching into this particular genre. This cd is highly recommended and great to sleep or meditate too. If you go to their product description you will see their website they have samples for you to listen too as well. You can't go wrong!

The '59 Sound

Great hooks, real passion, no holding back - sounds good so far! I'd never heard of the Gaslight Anthem until the other night, when I stumbled across them whilst band surfing. I was immediately grabbed by the title track, "The 59 SOund", which absolutely screams along. It's not alone; there aren't too many weak moments, and there is a huge amount of promise and power on display here.

I suspect this is not their "great" album: they sound to me like they are still refining the sound, gaining confidence, as sometimes perhaps they come across as - strange as it sounds - almost over-enthusiastic, brimming over with too much energy and too many ideas.

I'm already looking forward to their next effort, and most of all to seeing them live.
