This double CD represents a large project with numerous musicians, in a number of combinations, and playing a number of Davis's more popular compositions from the 60's and 70's. So admittedly it is difficult to take in just in one go. Whilst rating it as "good/3 stars", Miles From India has not instantly become one of my favourite Indo-jazz fusion albums or likely to be. Why: because of a number of petty annoyances it carries with it, neither does it have the degree of integration of two distinct musical styles, and instead the joins show on a number of tracks.

Sorry, but i'm going to be a bit harsh in my judgment for this one. (I'm torn between a three and a four star rating.) Even though i have this DOUBLE cd compilation, and wouldn't dream of off-loading it, there's something a bit disappointing with the track selections. It's not too much of a problem, for me, because it complements my "Can You Dig It?" deluxe double rather well. I'm unsure, however, if this is THE best one-stop compilation available, in spite of the content being perfectly okay. Another slight disappointment is the total running time of just over two hours. Once again, there was room for a whole lot more!

What a fantastic record. Hot Chocolate made some absolutely marvellous records & this collection is testament to that fact.
The songs are smooth as silk, funky, sexy, saucy,bitter & sweet. The musicianship is fantastic,as is the production & if Errol's voice was a business, I reckon Ann Summers would be bankrupt.
You do forget with some bands how much quality they produced & Hot Chocolate are probably for many people, one of those bands. I thoroughly enjoy this record, its pure quality (& its a tip top party record too !)
A must own - no, really, it is !!

Late Night Tales

Similar to previous review, I wasn't sure on first listen, a bit disappointed it wasn't a typical Fatboy house mix. But I gave it another chance and there are mainly cracking tunes on there which really grow on you.

I've now been playing this CD every other day for a few weeks and seem to enjoy it more each time.

I would recommend anyone to buy this - it will open you to some great tunes you've never heard before.

2001 is easily one of the most influential, trendsetting and important albums in west coast rap/hip-hop. Bringing west coast into the 21st century. If you like this sort of music then its got to be in your stack. Dre's 'The Chronic' is equaly as good and worth having too, just alot more old skool than this. Some great skits too giving the album a humourous edge to boot. Anyone giving it a 1 star should go buy some Vanilla Ice. ;)

Nigeria Rock Special

I took a real punt on this album, knowing nothing about the Nigerian Rock scene of the 70's. (or even that one existed for that matter!) I knew nothing about the musicians on this album. It just sounded really interesting. Listening to the album, I was so pleased that my gamble paid off in spades!

This whole album is a joy from start to finish, a real mix of styles - the classic rock/psychedelic feel of Hendrix, Cream and Santana mixed with an underscore of funk and some fabulous African rhythms. It's a really interesting blend and I think it's great.

HAVING SEEN TAVARES LIVE OVER 25 YEARS AGO, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THE BROTHERS ARE VOCALLY.....BRILLIANT! THIS CD SHOWCASES THEIR TOP DRAWER POP/SOUL RECORDS. PEOPLE ALWAYS MENTION "HEAVEN MUST BE MISSING AN ANGEL" WHEN THEY REFER TO DISCO MUSIC, TO MY MIND THAT IS REALLY UNDER SELLING WHAT IS QUITE SIMPLY A BRILLIANT POP RECORD. NOT MUCH TO DO WITH SOUL I SUPPOSE BUT A TRUE POP CLASSIC. TAVARES CAN SOUL IT UP WITH THE BEST OF THEM AND IF YOU PREFER A MORE SOULFUL SOUND THEN CHECK OUT THEIR EARLY CAPITOL RECORDS. Ultimate

It's becoming almost an annual event to churn out a Prince Greatest Hits album now. The annoying thing about that is that there's not much different about any of them. They usually contain at least 10 tracks similar to the previous effort and never have anything from the Batman album. Batdance was a huge hit I recall. This "Ultimate" album has the novelty factor of some extended remixes (basically the old 12" singles). Overall though, this compilation is lacking and doesn't show off enough of the great man's versatility. It's the safe option for the casual fan.

Don't expect any ballads, easy listening, or the hit singles, this double album length CD, recently reissued with a bonus track, collects together ten extended funk jams recorded between 1969 and 1971. With their raw energy and improvised feel, these vital studio recordings encapsulate not only the intensity of Brown's live performances, but also his volatile off stage existence during this period.
