I was very impressed by the first two volumes in the series but this volume, while it has some great tracks, does not match those two although I like this set better now than when I first bought it some years ago.
The highlights for me are I saw three ships (Sting), Blue Christmas (Sheryl Crow), Christmas (Blues traveller), a Gallic version of Silent night (Enya), Santa Claus is back in town (Jonny Lang), Christmas is now drawing near at hand (Steve Winwood) and O holy night (Tracy Chapman). Most of the other tracks are OK but the version of Santa baby included here is definitely not my kind of music. I much prefer Madonna's version, to be found on the first volume in the series, or the original Eartha Kitt version from the fifties. ... Read More:

This album is one of the classics! Although Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen have been replaced on the album due to contractual reasons, it still shines with the magic of the original cast. This is a must have for the old movie lovers! You'll listen to it again and again, even if it's not the Christmas season!

This set contains both of Streisands festive albums.
The first 'Christmas album' remains one of the all time classics. From the high-camp of 'jingle bells' to streisands hauntingly gorgeous 'silent night', the album is a sheer revelation from start to finish. Its a fine example of her 60's voice and intonation and remains a favourite to many fans.
the second album 'chistmas memories' came nearly 30 years after the first, but as always with streisand the wait is justified. the song selection is near perfect, and the whole work has a deeply atmospheric, almost cinematic feel. streisand takes festive standards ('i'll be home for christmas'), gorgeous ballads ('closer'), modern pop songs ('it must have been the miseltoe') and spiritual ... I ordered this album and thought it was the best christmas album I have ever bought. The songs are all so christmassy and really put you in the christmas mood. It is a great collection of varied artists, so it suits everyone's style of music. Favourites of mine are the beautiful "silver bells", the pretender's version of "merry little christmas" which is delightful, and mariah carey's belting powerful version of "o holy night" that sounds like she has desended from heaven. Buy it and feel 100% christmassy.

Since the last Goon has passed away, I have been playing a couple of my favourite cds. And Lo! this is one of them.It has 4 classic shows and includes previously unreleased material. I will pick on three highlights; "I'm walking backwards for christmas" the first time Spike unleashed this comic song to the unsuspecting public. Enter Bluebottle through the pipe. A master of a thousand voices was Peter Sellers. The third one was the John Snagge meeting Eccles, applying for the announcers job. Snagge could not beleive Eccles "was at Cambridge". When he asked Eccles what he was doing at Cambridge; "Buying a tie" came the classic answer. Out of four shows it is not easy picking your favourite bits. Buy this today and pick ... Read More:
