Having been a recent Primus convert I thought I'd start with Frizzle Fry but soon pork soda and this became so much more enjoyable. Having said that I had despaired for some years at the tiredness of rock and my brother told me about them. Good job he did - the musical force is amazing. I quite (in italics) like Lighning Bolt for their rawness and I can hear the infuences. Altogether though, this wins hands down.

Okay, I have always been a huge fan of smooth soul and R&B, and Roberta Flack has always been the perfect mix of those two genres. I usually like my soul music with a little oomph, but damn, I melt each and every single time I listen to Roberta's music. Not since Dionne Warwick has there been a singer who sang her songs so effortlessly. This is a rather short compilation, but it's her first, and still the best if you ask me. All of her greatest hits are here. From the stunning, and hopelessly romantic "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", to her legendary collaboration with Mr. H on "Where Is the Love". But these are far from being the only highlights on this album. Her reading of The Shirelle's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is fantastic, and ... Read More:
Boz Scaggs left the Steve Miller Band after "Sailor", their second, classic, charting (pop # 24) Capitol album released in November 1968.
He soon secured a deal with Atlantic and travelled to the recently created Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. For a Texas born singer, songwriter and guitarist whose early musical influences were firmly rooted in blues and R&B, Muscle Shoals was a fine place to record. The palette used here is broader however, incorporating many soul, country, gospel and rock elements.
Two guitar hotshots, Duane Allman and Eddie Hinton, augment the regular rhythm section of Barry Beckett, Jimmy Johnson, David Hood and Roger Hawkins. The sessions also benefit from the support of crack Memphis horn players ... Read More:

I can't understand why this album hasn't had more recognition because it is truly classic , a masterpiece of American music. Here , Alvin fuses folk , blues and country music into his own unique brand of ,yes , Cosmic American Music. The songs are all magnificent and get even better the more you listen and i've been doing that regularly for years.I'm a massive Springsteen fan but , seriuosly , this is better than anything he's put out since Nebraska. If you like what The Boss does on Devils and Dust then you WILL adore this album as much as i do.Please take a chance on it because Alvin deserves it and you'll be the winner.

This is probably radio documentary at its very best. It is a balance of sound and singing, voice and rythme. We hear of life at its very hardest and how the sea draws the fisherman again and again from the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. We hear of the drifter, the steam boat and the diesel: of the girls from Scotland who gutted the herring. Above all we hear songs that have passed into folklore and are given title and author for the first time. It is the most compulsive record you can listen to, and of God - if you listen "....he shot Him." Buy it and listen.

I first bought this in 1976 after seeing the Chieftains on the same bill as Freddie King and Eric Clapton !That day they had a profound effect on me as does this album. It is a collection of tunes beautifuly played by musicians who both care and love the music they are playing. There are no bad tracks,my personal favourites being "Drowsy Maggie","Morning Dew" and "Mna Na Eirrean".Whenever I hear the last track I am transported back to my native Ireland. A wonderful Irish album stunningly executed....and if youre ever in Clifden Paddy Malloys pub is equally as special ! Now whatever happened to that Eric Clapton fellow ?
